i have. need to rtfm a bit, but it’s pretty intuitive. recorded tapping on the side of the phone last night, that sort of thing. seemed cool. very easy to do. i’m pretty hamfisted with this stuff, so not a lot of subtlety at this moment.

also transferred an audioshare recording i did of a turboprop plane i was in. did an auto-slice on it and then repitched a few of the eight slices. then played little patterns on it. felt like that would be useful for me work flow.

looks like the effects are per slice. also panning and volume.

this was just about 10 minutes of screwing around with it.

Kodamo EssenceFM arrived! Tons of glare so the pictures suck...

Gonna be awhile before I get comfortable with it, but initial pros are;
Sound quality is exceptional
Easily can stack pretty much as many different voices as you like to make a patch.
The touch screen is very responsive and fast
Highly useable/editable fx and plenty of em.
I dunno, so far pretty stoked on this thing

That thing sounds really nice! As much as I’m enjoying my (somewhat shrunken) eurorack rig, that bang for buck part can wear you down. My Verbos Complex Oscillator, lovely as it is, cost considerably more than this Dreadbox piece. That’s before you factor in fx, filter, modulation, etc.

Always loved FM, so this could be a very nice thing to have. The distortions and bit crusher are very nice to have built in. It has enough multi timbral voices and polyphony that I could easily make full records on my Octatrack and this thing...if I ever learn how!

congrats. polyphony is absurdly large on that thing and the effects looked cool.

is it easy to get into the small touchscreen buttons with your fingers?

Yeah, super easy. Doesn’t feel small at all. So far I’m finding the layout pretty darn good.

for fun, I made a quick track using the Octatracks 8 midi channels to control 8 different voices on the EssenceFM. Took a minute to wrap my head around it, but it’s really easy and works fine. The only issue I have, if I can explain it right...
Each voice has two effects sends with a fair amount of options, BUT when you go into ‘performance mode’ to sequence a bunch of voices at once, you lose the channel effects and get two global effects instead. So now you gotta figure out which two, if that makes sense. So you can adjust how much or little you use on each voice, but you just get two. There could be a workaround and I’ll read the manual this weekend when I’m out of town. I may try sequencing it from Logic instead of the Octatrack and see how that goes. Something that occurred to me is the EssenceFM has 4 stereo or 8 mono outputs, so I could route additional effects that way. But even if I just use one or two voices at a time it would be worth having still because it sounds terrific

not sure if I’m late to the party on this...
Have the oceans 11 and love it.. wanted a reverb that had “more than just reverb” on it.
I tend to just dial in the modulated reverb (chorus) setting and the echo setting... it can be A bit tricky to dial in the secondary settings ie you can change modulated reverb to chorus or flanger or a mix of both as secondary settings.
Same goes with dialing in the pitch shifted mode- you can get complex with it... but as it’s on my band board I just leave it as is. May be better options out there but I prefer this to stuff like using a phone or pc ala Tc electronics or source audio.

Tape one to my bass and the other the the outdoor air conditioner.

As the forum's 'traditional ambient dude', I will admit to enjoying noisemakinf when no one is looking. Thing is I enjoy creating it much more than listening to it. Anyone else feel that way?

I can relate to that. It becomes more about the interplay involved in creating the noises than performing a composition, which is usually a different experience for the maker and the observer.

As long as your having fun.
Go for it.

I like both listening and creating it.
But i totally get not liking your eardrum getting assaulted.

I find a certain calm in all that chaos.....weird as this may sound ( bad dad pun intended)
