I have to admit, when BR49 came to theaters I was on a cyberpunk reading bender. William Gibson, and of course, the creator of the Blade Runner universe, Philip K. Dick. Plus I was listening to a lot of late 70s and early 80s post punk, which for some reason in my mind is oddly tied to cyberpunk thematically, think Gary Numan. So that particular film came to me at just the right time for me to really dig it. The sweet soundtrack is icing on the cake.
love gibson (though the peripheral left me a bit cold). read everything of his at least twice. (you might like cory doctorow.)
i always thought skinny puppy would've been the perfect soundtrack (unlike andy summers, who was pitched when they were gonna do a neuromancer movie).
