Ambient/Post-Rock/Textural bass playing thread

been using volume pedals for decades. pretty much one always goes with me. i go low
budget and lightweight: boss fv-60 (which is also stereo).

Ha! Not this time! They have a habit of putting two of their pedals in a giant box and calling it a limited edition. I'm super not into that.

Also, Animals As Leaders are great. Great musicianship and the music is super cool. Tosin's a bad dude.

Any of you guys use your volume pedals a lot? I play about 10-12 hours live a week and use the volume pedal like crazy for ambience, effects and rhythmic patterns. I’ve gone through so many Ernie ball strings on the EB VP that I’ve los count but keep coming back to it because I love the feel. Thinking of getting the shoble modded one but it’s $300 and am not sure if I want to spend that on a volume pedal. Anyone on the same struggle?

I should use it more for volume but I have a Dunlop mini that I use as an expression pedal.

A volume pedal has been my most used pedal forever. If you're going to spend $300 then get the Lehle volume pedal. Best one around by a long shot.

Don't forget you need to program the "note off" steps on soft synths and external midi sequences unless you want endless sustains.

That instrument selector in the top right is weird since it isn't always connected to one dedicated track.

The automation widgets are nice. Pretty easy to add an LFO to a device.

I was just following along with tutorials, really and trying to find connections I could use. I do like the visual aspects of being able to see all the details at once. Best I've tried all around. I got rid of mine at some point because it is heavy. If you're used to the full size ernie ball than it won't bother you. I'll get one again someday for sure.

That’s my initial reaction as well. Have to see how far I get before I have no walls left to punch

My fav “mix” right now of heavy stuff is metal core with electronic influences... northlane, void of vision...
pretty much kind of prodigy mixed with breakdowns...

Asking what « metal » I listen to is like asking what jazz do I dig or what hip hop I like.
Too broad of a question with soooooooo many anwers.

I dunno, I can go from Pete Rock to Pauline Oliveros to Kenny Durham to Bartok and Pig Destroyer in the same day so.....

Mmmm. Metal. I learned about Meshuggah reading a music theory master's thesis. A few years later, they happened to be playing a small venue in Umea (their hometown) while my wife and I were in town. We saw them with maybe 100 other people. Definitely up there with my most memorable concerts.

Other stuff: Isis, Jesu, Yob, Divide and Dissolve.

Also love heavier indie rock, shoegaze, stoner rock (I know, another bassist thread on here) etc. The new Hum album is spectacular and some of it quite psychedelic at the same time as heavy.

Volume pedals: just ordered a Boss FV-30L for the rebuild-my-board for the touch guitar project (same board that the reverb will go on).

side note, being older than most of you folks here, so probably out of touch, i feel like this trend in metal bands with contrasting scream and melodic singing draws a lot from chester in linkin park. thoughts?

deftones seemed less consistent, but i’m not talking about what i liked, talking about how the singing style ended up in metalish bands.

i hear it in a lot of these bands nowadays. periphery really has it.
