Dang, that takes me back. Weird-ass awesomeness. I was getting into them and oddly, Gong, around the same time.

What year did he play all over that Diana Ross album with "Upside Down" and "I'm Coming Out" on it? Was that 1980? That's when I became hyper-aware of what a monster bassist Bernard Edwards was. I'd probably been subliminally aware of some of the Chic tunes before then, but when that Diana stuff was all over the airwaves my ears got seriously schooled in Groove 101. You kinda couldn't avoid it.
That one is just plain crazy.(check out chic's i want your love . . . )

Probably not “in” with all you guys talking about jazz and what not... but I’m loving the static x regeneration album... scratching my itch of heavy music where you can hear the bass AND plenty of electronics going on.
In the category of « 70s funk »
This one is has been my eternal nemesis, always played it..... not quite right......just a few hairs short.
The main line is still one of my favorite right hand warm up exercices.
I got through entire Tower records, but this one....nope....still kicking my lame @$$. Damn you Rocco and your bionic mutant right hand super power x-men stuff.
(Saw them live and they actually play it faster now.....!!!.....and yes probably a million other songs kick me sideways)
I was deep in his stuff, transcribed a lot of songs. Many of hours of failing punched in. Added pain bonus: the bass is $%%^& hard to hear on some TOP recordings.Rocco was the first thing I can honestly say completely changed my mindset about bass. And he only uses two fingers on his fretting hand, you know?

I've been able to pull off a pretty decent Rocco, although since I've taken a turn towards the massive pedalboard craziness, my funk chops are going to crap.I was deep in his stuff, transcribed a lot of songs. I only realized a few years later seeing a video of him play that his left hand is a huge part of his sound time and feel.
It was like AHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!! NOW I GET WHY I SOUND LIKE CRAP PLAYING HIS STUFF!!!!!!!
Still do, but at least I kinda know why.

Same, I need some woodshed bad!!!!! Remember when we had 12 hours a day to do this bass thingy???I've been able to pull off a pretty decent Rocco, although since I've taken a turn towards the massive pedalboard craziness, my funk chops are going to crap.
Sheesh, this jam started out peaceful and pretty, ended glitchy and mildly annoying
