Ambient/Post-Rock/Textural bass playing thread

Probably not “in” with all you guys talking about jazz and what not... but I’m loving the static x regeneration album... scratching my itch of heavy music where you can hear the bass AND plenty of electronics going on.

I must have missed the memo but....
Since when was jazz back as "in'.......

I’ve heard good things about it from a few friends. I need to spin it soon. I saw the tour and it was as good as it could be, given the venue they played in LA. December off Wisconsin is a great ambient track.

Oh, okay, I thought you were referring to the shortcomings Loopop mentioned in the review.

so here's my addendum to this. as loopop says, mostly more feature requests than buys per se, some of which i would completely agree with (the pushing two buttons to create a mod link is a great one and seems to be based on the hydrasynth ui, as does wanting pat on the buttons, btw).

in terms of the multisample thing, yeah i get that . . . . but here's another review from a guy who says he had done some multisamples for kontact instruments and the iridium plotted those in perfectly (he did NOT use the kontact proprietary fromat from what i can tell).




anyway, most of his review makes me want the thing even more, despite some of his quibbles.

i used to have them all running into each other, now they're in basic sections that are alphabetical. herbie next to honneger next to howlin wolf ? sounds fun.

So much good music.
So little time. It actually makes me anxious sometimes.
I get overwhelmed be the sheer amount of good stuff to listen to. Especially when I crack open something new, then it all goes tumbling out of control with more awesome records.
I would need 2 or 3....ishhh lifetimes

My records are not alphabetically sorted, it's an aweful mess.

My anal retentive self would get a little tweaked if Henry Cowell was under H, but if I also had Henry Cow in my collection I would be hard-pressed not to appreciate the humor of their juxtaposition.

Mr Edwards has been kicking my butt for over 20 years. Rapper's Delight anyone???
(Even if Chip Shearin played it live in the studio for 15 mins straight.....it's still a chic line)

French is a crap language to learn to write.
Nothing makes sense, exceptions everywhere and every thing is either masculine or feminine.

So a table is not an "it" it's a "she".
Therefore all words associated with said table word is "accorded" to the correct "genre". Completely nuts.

Saw them when they toured adelaide last year - was awesome show... best part was they played my favourite “trance is the motion”... best mix of electronica, clean singing, heavy bass and guitar parts and back up growls...

Tony is a such a good guy for that gig. Right style. Good vocals. I’ve looked for the Fernandes bass he plays but it’s hard to find. He’s been using them forever.

What year did he play all over that Diana Ross album with "Upside Down" and "I'm Coming Out" on it? Was that 1980? That's when I became hyper-aware of what a monster bassist Bernard Edwards was. I'd probably been subliminally aware of some of the Chic tunes before then, but when that Diana stuff was all over the airwaves my ears got seriously schooled in Groove 101. You kinda couldn't avoid it.
