Easily one of the best bands doing this stuff in the last 20 years.
They record all live as a band, no click tracks and minimal studio artifacts. Drums are never triggered and the bass player is a fretless dude....(remind you of any band
..)

Currently toying with my Ableton effects chain for my Bass Send. I'm running the Darkglass Neural Cab Sim from their B7K/VMTD plugin, a bit of multi-band comp, and a little EQ fine tuning. I'm trying to dial in a good setting for the new preamp. It is tricky. The virtual mic selection and positioning was an exercise, but I think the Neural cabs are the best of what I've got and I found a setting I like. I spent the morning googling mic EQ profiles to confirm what I was hearing, and researching mic placement suggestions.
Not too much latency using the send into Ableton live with the "real" effects??
I tried this kinda of thing but couldn't deal with this unavoidable issue

The joy of my new preamp’s outputs. I’m sending a signal into a cab sim pedal and another signal into the interface. I can monitor the pedal sim in real time with Direct Monitoring on the interface and mute the raw DI track being recorded. Then when it’s time for playback, I flip on the software processing and get an approximation of what I was monitoring, with some additional EQ and Comp options.
The Neural cab sim is too CPU heavy to run in real time with a small buffer size. This arrangement seems to work. The result isn’t identical to the pedal sim, but it’s in the ballpark. So why don’t I just record the cab sim sound? Well, then I’m stuck with it for processing. With the raw preamp track I have some additional flexibility to change things in post.
Wish it had a wet/dry mix. Performs its 3 functions (bit crush,stutter,sequencer) very well but as “live” device you have to preplan what sonics you want to achieve and twiddle accordingly.

The Arcades is incredible. I have one with the first 4 cards. I almost exclusively use the LoFi card...very much looking forward to snagging the other cards. The biggest gripe is that pedal can only run one card at a time, there is no way to make your own mix of effects on a card...but the pedal is pretty phenomenal. There is a second switch that you can set to do almost anything on the pedal from a tap tempo to a value change on a knob. Sound is killer.
Stereo would be nice, but not needed. Might need to pick up the next release.

but it did remind me that i really dig this band from l.a. (my mom actually took me to see tham . . . weird).
anyway, dude plays fretless bass, sometimes with fuzz. this track has tremolo. (on other tracks rign mod violin, fuzz on voice, weird synth stuff, etc.) some of the lyrics are horrible.
oh yeah, drummer gave lessons to some of the l.a. jazz guys of my generation.

I was always impressed with Piper - I started listening to PF with Dark Side, then Wish You Were Here & Animals - still love all three, managed to escape burnout somehow. Then I heard Piper at the Gates of Dawn and was pretty blown away. I was always torn between the original version of Astronomy Domine and Voivod's version, which is very faithful, just with an early-'90s aesthetic:

I listened to the United States of America at some point once my interest in avant-garde music was really awakened (late-'90s/early-'00s for me) - I remember being impressed but never listened again - too much other stuff to dig in to, like Can and Magma and Gong and electric Miles Davis and Kraftwerk and...
I pulled out my two guitars last night. I rarely play them anymore. One is the first guitar I ever owned, and it is my longest held and oldest possession ('65 or '67 SG Jr.), which coincidentally has a repaired crack where it also broke the headstock from the neck. Aside from the trip down memory lane, I was blown away by the sound of it through the Empress Reverb. I mean, I know that is a very nice pedal, but as good as it sounds on bass, it is incredible on guitar. I had my headphones on and almost fell out of my chair when I heard it, and had to do a double take to check the settings.
I'm now wondering if I can actually play guitar on a few tracks I've been wanting to do. I don't have the dexterity to play most guitar lines, so it'll be interesting. I also don't have a good heavy guitar VST, so it's either drop $150 on one, or give this a shot. Let me say, the new Sol preamp sounds pretty darn good with guitar too.
