Ambient/Post-Rock/Textural bass playing thread

indeed (and i was laughing to/about myself when that was going down).

i’ve been thinking about one since they came out. i had the opportunity to do a trade for something that didn’t click with me. so here it is.
What was the one that "didn't click"??

Re: fish in a barrel
Im still waiting for another one. Yes, I also caved.....
Hint....it's from Russia.

Plus I got a little bonus from work.
Ill invest it in the stock market!!! Or my kids education......??

I may have gotten a little too spendy as of late. Staying with family has sucked away a bit of my self control. Gonna have to flip some things...however I did just get a new cab that has completely knocked my socks off. Found another older pedal that isn't made any longer that rules. Have definitely gotten a few delights that have been worth it...but yeah.....not having gigs and not being busy all the time can get spendy if I'm not careful!

What’s the cab and what’s the old pedal.
Common.....dont let us hanging like this.
:D

But I’m completely clueless about newer cabs, I have my over 20 year old Eden cabs (i think one is even older like mid 90s) and haven’t even looked at anything in over 15 years.

not gear related or bass related, but pretty interesting about having a (for the most part) diy process.

Tim Berne — Twenty Questions
Pretty sure I read Tim saying your name in an article...or maybe I heard him say it...talking about great electric bass players that he likes.

DIY all the way. With all of this free time I'm beginning to realize how meaningless keeping up with the cool kids is. Just do what you do as much as possible, put it out, and move on. I personally just want to continue to shatter my own ideas of limitations that I have created for myself....no need for accolades....just do the work.

He makes so many great pedals, doesn't he?

Damn right bud!!!!

Cool kids, ewwww.....in that context cool means popular and widely accepted....thus boring and and bland. Part of a group that needs accolades and validation of others. (Puke)
IMO, IME, YMMV.....etc

(Pays virtual drink of choice)

The cab is a custom 450 way 112 from Sinobas. I'm completely smitten. Sounds exactly how I've always imagined my basses should sound.

My favorite drive pedal is a Claymore from Electronic Audio Experiments. It's the Longsword with a cleanish blend. I have #3 of 7....so I've been looking for an even older Longsword #1 and finally got one. :)

Dang #1 of the entire production series. Wow.
1x12, looks sweet. Like I said, things must have come a long way in recent years because I have never played\gigged something I liked that was under 4x10. Times they are a changin

wheel house is a baseball term: where you like to hit the ball and how well you connect with it.

the cab thing has to do with the music you’re playing. most people love 4x10s, but i’ve hated them for what i do for almost 30 years. (in fact any 10s, for the most part.)

a 1x12 might not do for what you play.

Had plenty of gigs where a good one twelve would have been very welcome instead of the crap @$$ Ampeg portabass 210 I had in my car trunk. Was the only thing I could carry by myself easily, the 410 where a no go alone (hurt my back pretty bad once...I could barely walk the next day)
It was horrible but I paid for it many times over with gigs and when I sold it.

RE: baseball, haven’t watched a single game since the Expos left. Still peeved. They would have won it all the year of the lockout.

Not #1, but one from the first run of Longswords...darker and fuzzier than the newer versions.

112's have the right sound for me, and I normally need only one for what I do. I love em.

Enjoy, cringe. It’s so bad its good.

Well, I lasted exactly 22 seconds...

I’m freaking jealous that Berne got to hang with Braxton.

That sounds like the perfect cue-in for my Shameless Namedropping/Shameful Career Decision story:

I played in an instrumental avant-jazz comprovisational ensemble from 1986-1998 ...except from '87-92 I took a sabbatical.
During my sabbatical the band A) performed a concert with Tim Berne as their special guest, playing some of Tim's charts and having Tim play their original music; and B) recorded an album of all Anthony Braxton material that was officially sanctioned by Mr. Braxton -- he provided charts, some direction, and lots of encouragement).

I returned to the band full-time just in time to hear about how awesome those accomplishments were :(

Ouch, that one hurts. At least you’re not Pete Best.....
Life....
Win a few, lose a lot.

(Friendly pat on the back)
