Ambient/Post-Rock/Textural bass playing thread

For the synth-head looking at the Medusa, Sweetwater is now shipping. The first customer review is up and it isn't encouraging.
Dreadbox Medusa Analog and Wavetable Synthesizer with Sequencer

For folks interested in dark ambient stuff, like field recordings and minimalist tracks, check this artist out.

He's been coming to our performances, and he gave us some of his CD's. Really good stuff. No bass or effects in it, but I find the textures inspiring. His social media posts show some of his field recording process, which has me interested.

Like this dude! Great texture

Still working out the kinks with my Octatrack, but finished a jam using a sliced drum loop and a few live looped bass guitars. Way off the beaten path for me...sounds like a cross between 80’s hip hop and David Bowie’s “Fashion” or something...heck, when I get anything out of the Octatrack I want to throw myself a party :)

Yeah, that looks pretty hip. Bugs me that it’s so dang tiny and Teenage expect you to memorize a Manila because they’re not huge fans of showing you what the knobs and buttons do :)
It is a cool though...looking forward to more videos if they ever release it

It Bluetooth connects to the phone, so you can see display stuff. Hoping the menus and GUI are easy to follow.

Oh, that’s a new feature since I first saw some beta reviews...either that or (more likely) I spaced that detail. All I have from TE is a PO Knockout...super tiny and fun results...it’s so tiny it kinda drives me nuts. I’ve heard so much cool music done on the OP-1, I’m surprised I haven’t tried one yet. A buddy has one, so might check it out some day. Learning the Octatrack has me in deep enough on learning curves :)

The new EHX ModRex sure looks very cool.
Invalid Link Removed

Seems kinda neat on the surface...I’ve owned quite a few EHX pedals and while they always seem great for the price, they tend to leave me a tad underwhelmed:/
Hope this is an exception!

I love EHX pedals and have quite a few.
However, I find that their most interesting pedals are not at their best in a live setting due mostly to the lack of presets/switching availability.
I will eventually end up with all the '9' series and many of the feature-laden versions of pedals like the Memory Man, Pulsar and such, but those will reside in my studio moreso than on my live boards.

That’s a great point. Most of my pedals are just for recording, now that I think of it :)

Cool stuff. If you're into that dark ambient stuff Soma FM has an internet radio station called "Doomed" that plays stuff like that 24/7: Doomed from SomaFM

I've made the mistake of falling asleep to it once or twice and it made for f'd up dreams.

I try to keep up my lurking on the thread, with occasional interjections, but I've not been able to lurk as much lately... so maybe this was already posted, but here it is and there you have it:

I've always liked Henry Kaiser, he's a crazy-kookie-cool Dude.

Guitar-content hopefully ameliorated by Andy West's appearance, though brief, and isn't really what drew me to the vid anyway.

New Macbooks announced. I had been looking at the last of the 15" 2015 models with the older USB ports. Hoping to get a device for more live effects usage on the laptop, since the delays and reverbs eat CPU, particularly in low-latency settings. I like that the new 13" has a quad core chip (vs. the older dual-core), but I'm not sure if that will be more beneficial than the 16 GB of RAM you can only get on the 15" models... Of course, then new 15" models are 6-core and priced out of my interest range.

Out in the sticks driving to a gig...couldn’t watch yet, but I love this guy, so hopefully later!

nice.

the first guy, i looked at his rig and said, he likes nels. then he drops that later. (i may have played on a bill with him in d.c. a couple years back)

andy's sound seemed like it's gonna be huge live.

since we're on the kaiser (cline) tip, if you wanna hear a guy who is doing some interesting stuff with processing/guitar (i love the vocalist, some may not dig her):

Learned a lesson today (again): never go into a music store "just to look around". Why? Because I did and I came home with a Mel9 and lighter-weight wallet. I gave it a good test drive in the store with a bass and I am quite impressed with its tracking ability and sound. It does have an artificial feel to the sound at times, which I've come to expect from these types of EHX pedals, but with a little technique adjustment I found I could hide most of it. Been playing some classic Tangerine Dream kind of stuff since I got it home on both guitar and bass, very cool pedal. Tracks well, too, as long as you stay above a low A; it will play lower but you have to slow down. You can make some pretty ominous minor key sounds with the thing, maybe later I can see what I can do on the multitrack and throw a recording up.

As for my wallet, well, it's still way cheaper and lighter than an actual Mellotron, right? See how easy that logic is!
