Haha. I do so much of that w gear that is way too complex for it. I am also not averse to reading manuals but some pieces of gear I just cant bring myself to sit down w the stupid guide despite how much more Ill get out of it if I do.

the interface can really make things more productive and intuitive. such a relief after years of horrible little windows. touchscreens for the win.

i think placement in space is a really interesting area of investigation.
panning and volume seem really important to me these days. incorporating silence or near silence also seems to be an interesting challenge.
in your piece, the low-end burbling that's just below consciousness (i hope the communicates) is really cool.

Re: Hs desktop, i think you've come to the wrong place to get talked out of purchasing one.
Especially with some aficionados of the Hydra on this thread.

i think the hydra is pretty great. i know nothing about the virus, though i do know that some folks prefer it.
the real question is what are you going to use to play it? having something that sends poly aftertouch is pretty great cause it opens up the modulation possibilities. especially important in your case cause the iridium receives pat, doesn’t it?
the hs is also mpe compatible. iridium isn’t there yet, is it?

and the hs has about 30 microtonal scales.
if you know who robert rich is, he apparently uses the hs on his new alb. he contributed a fair amount of the microtonal scales and uses some in the alb.

Working on sequencing with the Erica, along with patching it into Zoia. I’m very happy with the oscillators and filters. I am already considering another oscillator and effects module, but it’s hard really consider changing anything at this point.

I'd mostly use it as my VA. I think I'm just tired of the Virus, I'm tired of the sounds, and I hate the fact that Access is still selling these things and hasn't had an update in a few years, and from what I can gather, isn't going to. I've always thought they HS was laid out so well, in terms of interface (it was what I was planning on getting until the Iridium came out). I've had my Iridium for about 4 months, and I've already created at least 15 or 20 patches that I actually like. I've probably done less on the Virus, and I've had that for at least 3 years, so it's making me more cognizant that, at least for now, interface has a lot to do with how well I do SD.
I didn't know Rich used that on the new album, which I have heard (Rich is my other big influence besides Roach). Filaments and Medicine Box are two of my favorites, I must have 35 of his albums.
I think my main controller does poly at, I'm not sure. I know I've done AT with it, before, I'll have to check. Isn't the big issue with poly AT more on whether or not a synth does it? Iridium does, afaik, and from what I've heard is going to have MPE coming up in that big update. I do have a ROLI blocks I could also use, too.

afaik, most midi controllers don’t do poly. they’ll do channel. poly will give you per-note modulation, which can be a beautiful thing, imo.
the synth pat receiving is good, but if you can’t send poly, it doesn’t matter.
the hs has had a few firmware updates already. most have had add-ons, not just bug fixes. i am a fan.

I have a very early one and I do not experience any clicks. Maybe make sure you are on the latest firmware? If not write them and send a vid. I reported bugs early on and they fixed them in the code.
I have no other comparable gear to compare it to, but I fricken love my Hydrasynth. I haven’t tried using it as a controller yet, but that’s the only complaint I hear about with it from people is that it is not good as a controller (black keys are disproportionately louder than white keys as a controller).
I don't think if my controller's not Poly AT that it would be a deal-breaker; it's pretty old and on its last legs. I will have to do some research about what controllers have Poly AT, so if anyone has any tips on that.
firmware is on the recent version.
tried multiple power supplies and outlets.
Its busted.

pretty sure that there are no other ones that are in current manufacture. (this according to glen darcey of asm.)
they’re supposed to be doing a firmware update to fix the black keys. it’s not been something that bothered me.
if you get the hs, just know that a lot of the presets use pat, so some of them won’t work right with a controller that doesn’t send pat. the desktop’s pads *do* send pat. they’re decently functional.
if you need a new controller, i’d consider the keys version.
