Will do! Thanks. I am looking forward to my custom earplugs. What's Torn's story?
Man... @lordradish ...hang in there. I have damage in both ears, but mainly my right from having drummers on that side all the time. Constant ringing. I use custom earplugs now for sure, and you get used to the ringing and hearing loss to conti ue your work. Please keep us up to date about the rest.
Yeah, it'd be quite the Frankenbassist. But actually, with your two half-arms, my two full arms, my one ear and your two ears, we'd be better than Victor Wooten in no time. I mean, how many three-armed, three-eared bassists are there?Dang.
With your half-pair of ears and my half-pair of arms we could almost make one bassist
Fingers crossed for a best-case result.
I don't offend easily... it's usually things like fascism, stupidity, or superstition that offend my sensibilities, so you're good.@lordradish from the Glass-Half-Full department: At least your low-end hearing is intact, and since we're bass players... :::ducks:::
I don't mean to make light of your audiological predicament, and apologies if that comes across as callous.
But I come from a radically different perspective: My wife suffers from sensory-neural hearing loss, a degenerative malady that's hereditary; showed up out of nowhere ~25 years ago and very quickly impacted her hearing/discrimination such that it immediately ended what had been a 15-year career as a professional singer. And it's only deteriorated since that original diagnosis, such that top-of-the-line hearing aids now only give her modest assistance in one ear, the other being beyond hope. If she saw the graph from your audiologist she would probably burst into tears and ask "Why couldn't my loss be so minor?!?!" (Her graphs have what audiologists call a "cookie bite" profile, albeit an extreme manifestation: Everything from about 300Hz to 6kHz is >70dB down.)
Good luck, glad you're staying calm, here's hoping you'll get a chance to use your Schwarzenegger impersonation ("IT'S NOT A TUMOR!") soon.
Magnum force!!!!I don't offend easily... it's usually things like fascism, stupidity, or superstition that offend my sensibilities, so you're good.
It's funny you mentioned that, though, as I thought, aw crap, almost 10 grand worth of synth gear and now I might have to go back to just bass, someday. That'd probably suck for me, too, tonally, as I'm not into the mud/reggae tone, as a rule.
I never need an excuse for a Schwarzenegger impression, I'm mostly thinking Clint Eastwood at the end of Magnum Force, when he said, "A man's got to know his limitations," right before blowing up the bad guy.
I appreciate the kind words, folks. I'm doing fine. I'm not deaf, I just hear things a bit differently, now. I'm already adapting, in just constantly being aware that there are more high frequencies in everything I listen to than I can hear. Eventually, I might just try to pinpoint more, how much, and just translate that into mixing.
I'm not sitting around thinking it's a brain tumor, or that I'm even gonna be deaf in that ear. But if it is, I'll deal.

David Torn has been on my mind quite a bit, lately, and if this does get severe, I've actually thought about reaching out to him. Thanks.
That was the other one, who's that poser? George Lynch?
For me the 1st one that came to mind is Pat Martino.for those who don't know the david torn story. it's pretty remarkable. read it and then consider that he plays and records and *masters* people's recordings.
