started pricing the ebs stuff. pretty pricey for my wallet right now, as i would have to buy *a lot* of cable.
Then sell some pedals
Imagine buying cables and patch bays for a studio.
Basically a 3rd of the budget.
Everything is expensive.
I got some cheapo (digiflex I think...)patch cables for my temporary experiments ar home also.
They are perfectly ok for that application.
Would gig those way before solderless ones.

Speaking of new gear recommended in this thread, that quicklok DJ table showed up today, the DJ233. Damn I knew the dimensions but it seems so big...but its perfect for my bleep bloop board. Now I cam set up pretty much anywhere within 15 feet of electricity and can mess w my setup seated or standing!
....and yes, it arrived dented as all the reviewers suggested
+1 on the George L's ill-experience.
My gig-board was reduced to Fdeck and tuner, so all my fun pedals sit at home, and the GL's go bad, even on the unused board. Can't stress enough how unstressed the GL's were ... gzhzhddt.
Soldering my own cables now, but would welcome the super-compact flat pre-fabs.

By the way as some might have snapped up from some of my other posts here on TalkBass I quite recently bought my first 6 string bass, a lovely Iabanez ST306EB, that I have tuned in D standard, as in 3 half steps above regular 6 string bass B standard tuning, or 2 half steps bellow regular 4 sting bass # stanrdard tuning, and strung accordingly.
And I am serious pondering on collecting a live drone/ambient rig for it, even if I previously have really used all kind of instruments and primarily manipulated them in DAWs and Wave editors, cutting, copying, pasting, using various VST effects and automation, combined with programming music electronically, using Reason 5 and midi via DAWs with various VST instruments and effects.
But would be nice to practice on improvising live and I think a 6 string bass is pretty much perfect for this.
With my economical situation it is going to take a while to get such a setup scrapped together though.
I figure I would be able to more or less still use my current bass setup with some minor rearrangements, and figure I should be able to do by just adding an EHX Attack Decay, an EHX Superego+, as well as a good looper pedal (not sure which yet, the TC Electronic Ditto X4 Looper would have been perfect if it had more max loop time, but maybe then the EHX 22500 Dual Stereo Looper), and perhaps an EHX Tri Parallel Mixer as well.
Still those few couple of pedals are not the cheapest out there and is going to be a nice chunk of money for someone like me that doesn't have much to spare on my budget.
Anyway, here the bass is, I have named it "The Noodle Queen" :

Okay, this sounds EXACTLY what I would have written when I did this, a few years ago... I went to six because I was going back and forth between guitar and bass, and although I'm a pretty good bassist, I never evolved past 'half-as*ed blues guitarist/Fripp-wanna be', in terms of my gtr chops, so I bought a cheap six (a Hohner Bass VI, which, all things considered, was a much better bass than it should have been), did that, started building out my rig, figured out I loved this (which led to the ridiculous hardware synth addiction I now have), had a custom 6 made, then eventually converted the rig to stereo, and bought a pair of QSC 8.2's (the better model, can't remember the letter) and a sub, and it's just the most amazing thing.
So, yeah, Alice, you're definitely going down the hole. Build it slowly, like you're doing, it grows (and it's generally, the only way to afford it, I think) You have a good idea for the starters. Here's my current setup (sorry bout the size, a few of you've seen this, already).

i use that tuning in some basses (fretted/fretless pair). i call them my Eb basses cause i write for them as a transposing instrument (sorta like an Eb saxophone).
imo, you’re gonna want some lighter gauge strings. i got mine from kalium (dunno how reliable they’ve been of late, however). the last a kong time for my needs.
As I wrote :
I used the D'Addario online String Tension Pro string tension calculator to determine which strings to use and bought the strings individually to get the right gauges, and the upper string (high D#) is actually a guitar string (or to be exact the high E string from D'Addario's Fender Bass VI set, since those strings are longer than their regular guitar strings) threaded through the cut off ball end of a bass string to be able to anchor it at the bridge of my bass.
I went for quite low and as perfectly balanced tension as possible, quite similar tension wise to that of D'addario's balanced tension gauge .095 - .070 - .055 - 040 set for 4 string basses tuned in E standard tuning, which are gauge .105 - .080 - .060 - .045 - .032 - .024, and it actually work well for me, though I might get a gauge .107 string next time for the low D string (since the .105 low D string is just a tad too floppy for my liking and slightly lower tension than the rest of the strings (though it does actually work perfectly fine), and it additionally would allow me to buy D'Addario's balanced tension gauge .107 - .080 - .060 - .045 4 string set for the 4 lowest strings, instead of individual strings).
I did consider having my strings custom made too from an European string manufacture where I live, but as I am actually quite satisfied with how the D'Addario works out and I wouldn't know exactly what to expect from the custom string company I think I am just going to stay with regular D'Addario XL nickle roundwound steel core strings for now.

I've been considering trying to find lighter gauge strings than what I already have for mine. Am gravitating toward wanting really low tension strings, but I use flatwounds so it's more difficult. I already use LaBella low tension flats. LOVE the sound...but super curious about even lower tension.
i’m using thomastiks on some and will have pyramids on my next. (my pyramid rounds are fairly low tension and i like them in my headless basses.)

Any suggestions for regular tension flats for C standard tuning on a 4 string??
Can't seem to find any that have correct gauges. I'm about to give up.
