Once played a top 40 gig as a sub.
At the break, I go to get the complimentary bottle of water at the bar. Lady says "that'll be 3$".

Me: "euh...i played an hour set with the band and we get free food and water".

Her: "never saw you. 3$".

Had to get the lead singer to bring me back my %#&#*# bottle of water.
The gig was horrible, I never played as a sub with them ever again.

The polytope is amaze balls.... it really is... only problem I had was I ran it exactly how I ran my ceb3. Filter on full so only highs effected and very subtle rate and depth - given the rarity I sold it to someone who could use it more.
Thinking I would love the “voices thing again” I got a digitech nautila... also amazing and versatile but is too lush / option paralysis / not quite what I want. Those two are definitely should haves

in however I am GAS after either a ceb3 or bass clone. Torn between I love the “chime” of the boss but also love the under water warble of the time ehx...

Yes, absolutely. To see what you can get, start with a unison setting, and keep hitting whole notes on a string while as slowly as possible moving the slider away from unison. I generally prefer tuning detuning down to detuning up but YMMV.

Another cool detune experiment to hear the effect without a POG. Drop your G string down to D. It will be floppy but don't worry about it. Hit whole notes, and drop it a little further. There will be this magical point of chorusing which you can vary with the tuning. I sometimes play DADD or CGCC this way and just bar the top two strings. Huge sound with a bit of overdrive. (Stolen from Paul Malinowski of Shiner, who stole it from a guitarist).

While modular has always intrigued me I've managed to resist it. Partly because a lot of the people around me who are into modular don't seem to be doing anything particularly more musical than those of us with standalone synths, and partly because I've become more interested in bass and pedal stuff lately.

In any case I already have too much stuff and can't justify the whole new universe of gear and money-blowing and hording that is modular. If I were just getting started in electronic maybe it'd be different.
