If you want a smallish pedal that can do it all, but only one thing at a time, Dr Scientist The Elements is what you are after. It is a little complicated but there's no app or anything. It's what I use at home since I only ever want one distortion at a time at home.

The Elements — the Greatest Dirt Pedal to ever continually fly just under the radar of the mainstream dirt-maniacal masses.

I loved mine so much (white&silver), I managed to pry a rare dual-Elements from another TBer. He has since procured another — only two Dual-Elements in existence TTBOMK. So what can you do with three Elements? Loan out the Dually to a friend who already has an Elements... or do what Steubig does.

One of these days, we're going to get all four Elements together and see if we can create The Fifth Element.



I will disagree with one thing you said JES: "complicated". It only APPEARS complicated. Spend a moment with it, and it all comes together and makes sense.

Here's the PDF manual, a one pager.
Standard control set, really, with some spice-toggles in the middle:

KNOB-ROW1: GAIN, VOL, MIX (Mix=Clean blend)
4 TOGGLES: Gain (2 levels), CLIP (LED/None/Sili-Asymmetrical), Bass Cut (Some/Lots/None), MID FREQ (400Hz/1200Hz/800Hz)
KNOB-ROW2: BASS MID TREBLE


Some sample settings for starters:

While not marked on the diagram above, the controls are always clearly labelled on the Elements pedal itself, whatever the graphic.

Ryan's one of the good blokes in the world, and worthy of support.

OH, almost forgot to mention TOP JACKS, though the EXPRESSION INPUT (for MIX) is on the side, but what can you do, it's very compact for all its tonal variety.

Perfect pedal for @lordradish, given his comments, needs and Fuzzy preferences.

Hah. I guess the table in the middle is a 'desk', as it has a laptop stand and can be sat at, but I think the 'desk' left the station a long time ago. On it is the VESA for the Iridium, the Hydra, and a few pedals. Bass rigs are over in the corner, obscured.

The Rug is what really ties it altogether, though.

I've seen that video before, very entertaining and I like the band. I'm also glad to see Logan found a second career as a musician after his Wolverine days were over.

Some audiences don't "get" the music, and then he gets frustrated and ... it doesn't end well. He tends to go through a fair number of instruments — brings whole new meaning to "shredding it".

dual elements. okay, i’m jealous.

the elements was a flavor of the month on tb a while back, which made me avoid it. and that was a bit of a mistake in my part.

if you want to do the blend thing, my experience with the black one is that its design is a bit older and doesn’t go to complete dry with an ev-5. the others work well.

the complicated part for me is remembering how the cut switches work.

the elements isn’t perfect, but i like it a fair bit.

ryan does respond to email (at least he did a few years ago).

I just sent him one concerning line level inputs.

But I can't complain the wmd geiger counter does the job and then some.
Its so deep it's almost intimidating.

When something is too popular it makes me want to run in the opposite direction. For example: Always liked Fedoras, then Indiana Jones popularised them and I couldn't bring myself to wear a fedora for years. Luckily for me, not so much for Dr Scientist, the Elements hasn't been a runaway success. If he were to get it on Justinthyme Whutzizholme's board... it probably would be.


As for The Elements' switches, I gave up trying to remember what's what. I flip a toggle, if it sounds good, I leave it there.
