Ambient/Post-Rock/Textural bass playing thread

i play the pedal and post-ct5 manglers, and leave the bass on my lap.



what's the fun in that? just wing it like the rest of us.



a non-helpful answer: a movie that had more promise than it could live up to.

the pertinent answer: in the og firmware (from memory):
1. have the far-right toggle switch in one of the bottom two positions.
2. when the pedal is off (but powered up), press the left switch until the right light turns from blue (regular) to green (transcendence). it's quick, so watch.
3. when you turn the pedal on, it should have the green light on (right light).
4. go into record and get something in the buffer, mess with the far-left toggle switch:
a. the middle position is standard one-head operation (the bottom three knobs are for pitch/direction, aperture and so forth)
b. the bottom position is three-head operation (all three of the bottom knobs control pitch/direction for three different iterations of the loop . . . fun!)

just try it. it's my favorite thing about the pedal.

Transcendence keeps the buffer "info" when switching modes and tweaking some parameters such as tape lenght/reading head placement in mode 1.
(Each time you move the tape head in mode one the sound cuts off in normal mode and doesn't in transcendence mode)

So if you loop something in mode 2, then flip to mode 3 that same loop will continue and not be erased.

I tried the nightly firmware and its very different. For now I prefer the OG.
Also no transcendence in the alternative firmware.
Mode 2 in nightly is nauseating because the vibrato speed blinks with the LED.
After abouy 40 mins I got dizzy for real.

I love Alice Coltrane and am so glad I was able to find my way into the music. I think the album with Carlos Santana led me in, then anything I have found later, like Journey in Satchidananda, already kind of made sense. Just the bassline alone is so cool...

Cool idea.

Personally, cuz I'm a weirdo, I'd go for the weirdest/glitchy/crackling/wild oct down fx.

The opposite of clean and faithful reproduction of signal but lower cuz.....Where's the fun in that?

I've been using the EBS, as it tracks flawlessly. More of a standard octaver, not the noise machine you may be looking for. Although I have to say, I'm pretty surprised at how little I use the octaver with mine.

Prob is, I never know what to do for 'demo' clips, esp. if I'm trying to just get the unaltered sound of the bass out. Half the time it comes out like wankery. Why would I subject you to that?

As long as you dont play Girl From Ipanema in all 12 keys I think I can handle it.

i always think simple is best:

long tones on open strings and stopped strings.

harmonics

double/triple stops

scales?

pick/fingers?

mostly we want to hear what the bass sounds like, not shredding. (well, maybe that's just me.)
