Speaking of audioshare, I had issues importing samples into my DM1 drum machine app.
Every step went fine, then back to the app and sample never loads.
Wall punching-ta-cu-lar.

I went skateboarding to solve to issue.

that could've been dm1. iirc, i had that app and had some issues with it.

The change of scenery part was the most valuable part of the video for sure. Whether that’s physically moving somewhere, or just rethinking your space.

sometimes that change of scenery can be a different piece of gear, can’t it?

different sounds/possibilities can help goad me into different directions.

The false notion that we can simply purchase creativity has value too.

yeah. you can’t purchase creativity.

i do find that spending money can guilt me into knuckling down and working harder to justify the money i just wasted.

but i do attempt to be judicious and buy stuff that i could really use.

its a tough one to word such thing out, since i could just come from one perspective, but not many at the same time. And finally a very sensible topic. But, i´d say it so:
much populated by people who want to make music by plan !
first a plan, ......you know what you do, ......then the music.

But: thats NOT what music-making has taught me.
if you are good enough, will things flow out of the context and out of the moment.
But then, some of these folks are pro, they work on the PC on their contract works.
so: different context !.......which i finally understand. But none i saw, wanted to understand their oposite. i leave it there, and don´t elaborate further, ....its better.
We had enough discussions in that direction, there.
Especially modular has taught me, that mostoften chaotic actions would even lead to better results, than anything my brain could come up with.
Instrument playing is a different topic, though.
But both realms share one thing: if you have spent so and so much hours on your instrument, is there something like "finger memory" part of the reality.
and even if you would act completly chaotic, would it remain within a certain "framework" that has been created within you.
Thats the part, none there ever could follow. ( a synthesiter community)

and that the Bass sounds quite like a synthesizer.
the combination of a creamy LP Filter with a distortion is good for this. .....for me a surprise !

RE: gear , investments, inspiration/

For me, learning to play with a pick and heavy woodshed is by far my best move in a long time.
Created an entire new world of ideas, sounds, tones, techniques, colors and approaches to the bass.

so, total $$ investement, a few cents. But major time involved in the woodshed, no cheating allowed here. (well maybe heavy dirt to hide some sloppy string crossing …)

favorite most used\creative tool other than my bass, easily my SP sampler. its incredibly versatile and fits my workflow, even with all its glitches and limitations.

New (well new for me) fretless is freakin awesome BTW, thank you years of scales, fingering exercices and my « weird » hydrid Simandl left hand technique. 2 years of 90% upright bass also helps a lot.

It will be a welcome addition to my modest toolkit.

Edit: More WOODSHED since band hits the studio in October for album 3.

didn’t think that’s what you meant.

i meant that in the early days of ios music apps, there was sort of a wild west thing going on. some crap apps and some good ones. some of the good ones fell by the wayside.

Thinking I might build a pedalboard back up. All I currently have left is my Count To Five and GFI Specular Tempus. Ordered a Gamechanger Light spring reverb and a GFI Synesthesia. We’ll see

I’ve had the Empress Reverb and Echo in storage. Pulled them back out with the mini bass. They each can work as loopers so it’s handy to have them.

I had an epiphany of sorts working with my (still new to me) Blooper just the other night. Some of my early experiments with it had been a bit ungratifying musically because -- in hindsight -- I realized I was diving in to all the whacky stuff it can do too soon.

Tuesday night playing with the trio I tried something radical [sic] ...I simply replaced the tc electronics Ditto pedal on my board with the Blooper, and then just used the Blooper to do all the comparitively straightforward non-whacky looping things that a Ditto excels at.

Turns out a Blooper makes an excellent straightforward non-whacky looper! And it's much easier to control and predict than even a simple Ditto. More versatile too, because you can easily switch between capture/overdub (layer)/repeat, and capture/overdub (replace)/dissolve -- aka, "frippertronics" -- without ever delving into any of the higher-level Modifiers it offers.

But then once it had proven its worth as a viable straightforward non-whacky looper, all the totally left-field whacky Modifiers became pure gravy! Allowed me to totally re-think how I want to use a Blooper.

Speaking of Fripp... saw King Crimson (with the 3 drummers) as well as the Zappa Band last Monday. Quite the show, although having seen this lineup twice before, I think it's getting a little bit stale, at least in terms of the setlist. Zappa Band killed it, especially Mike Keneally, who did double duty on gtr/keys, and looked like he was having so much fun he would explode.

So, the guy who hardly uses dirt has need of a recommendation. On my small board (the one I use for non-ambient gigs), I just have some cheapo fuzz that I bought years ago. It ain't cutting it. I'm trying to find a distortion that's warm, sustainy and not abrasive - the opposite of what you'd use for really aggro/noise. Any suggestions? It's still not something I'd use a lot, so not looking to spend 200 bucks.
