He definitely has his thing and does it well.

I can't get over the look of those. They don't look good. Someone somewhere else said they had to look twice because they look like knockoff Foderas.....yeah....not far off. Just strange. No doubt they play great.

I suppose that's the beauty of custom instruments. We get what's best for our our needs. I was surprised how much they don't appeal to me.

Its based on a Warwick Thumb, I had one Bolt on 5 string.
Easily one of the worst instruments I’ve ever owned.

Now I'm on the Fodera site and thinking of what I could sell to source the cash for a 4 string Yin Yang standard...

I could clear space in my closet and get a new bass. Hmm...

Depends. It's a pretty dated sound, but a really great one. Not remotely for me, but I dug it. There was a shortlived band in the 90's that had a great bass player that played a fretless Thumb. Amazing sound. Also, Norwood Fisher!

Way too nasal for me, just didn't fit for me.
But if it makes someone happy and play bass, hey all good with me.

Wasn't for me either, bit I heard some folks make them sound great.

I used my Thumb BO 5 on quite a bit of stuff that it shouldn’t have fit on. I regret selling it. Plus Ryan/Mudvayne. Plus they look great. Sure they weigh 11 pounds, but nobody said it was easy.

LFOs. Envelopes. S&H. It does a lot.

Oh, I’m aware! It’s one of the first modules I bought. It’s a very tight master clock, which was my main reason for getting it. I often forget some other stuff it does, but I do set it to odd time clocks for modulation and stuff, which has a similar effect to a square wave LFO

Not sure if y'all covered it already but ASM is releasing a smaller version (and a larger version) of the hydrasynth

As far as I tell, it’s mostly about more options for keyboardists. Correct me if I’m wrong.

I’m mulling over which desktop unit to get if I want a desktop poly module. And waiting to see if the new UDO release is a module rather than a keyboard.

A desktop UDO Super Six would be awesome!

I never listened to Mudvane, wasn't listening to current music at the time it came out.

But been checking out the Ryan Martinie/Fodera threads and got turned on to his other band, Soften the Glare - digging it, even found them on Bandcamp!



EDIT: Best part - it's INSTRUMENTAL! (I'm not really into vocals for the most part... I know everyone's different, but that's a big plus for me)

Not a huge fan of the solo J bridge PU in this video, but the other settings sound great. The 5 isn't grabbing me.

Working at Sweetwater I got my hands on quite a few Fodera's and for me, there were about 30% of them that were incredible instruments, but the rest were pretty average, especially considering the price. Not trying to poo-poo anyones ideas of what instrument they should or shouldn't buy, and YMMV, obviously.

I've played a Fodera or two in my day and been impressed. But I certainly can't match what you've been able to experience.

Fit and finish was always impeccable. They are all incredibly well built and the Fodera folks were all incredibly cool when they came to do sales meetings. Just some of their basses “sang” more than others, if that makes sense. Not trying to knock the brand at all.

You guys can list after your foderas… I’ll just list after my Ibanez prestige stuff… light and small with 16.5mm 5 strings are just more my thing…
I took my k5 in for a service and the guy said it was lighter than most of his guitars hehe

ymmv etc just don’t like the look of most of those foderas and weight is a turn off for me
