Most folks overlook the real potential of specOps me thinks.
Because its not like something that you could learn in a linear way.
You need to spend time, you NEED *to invest*. seriously
I think the RX is what I used. I used it as a plug-in on my last Blood Stains track to cover some transient click/pop sounds when I chopped loops at non-zero crossings. Also to lower the hiss in some noisier spoken samples.

Time stretching I always do offline, but the other ones I try as a plug-in first and it usually works fine

I don't usually go for clean sound, and I more often add noise than remove it... but when there's just too much, I will often slap some high shelf EQ on there with a heavy hand. Or I'll use fast tremolo just in a high band to give it some texture, or heavy reverb to smear away texture if that's the problem. Or masking it with something else.
But I will say that Izotope RX De-Click gets pretty regular use from me. Unwanted clicks and pops are more of an issue for me and it's pretty good at fixing them. There are sometimes huge discounts on Izotope RX.

I do have the five string Mikro. I like that it's so well made compared to the price, and the really short scale offers a totally different tonal palette than a 34" scale...and a whole world of difference from my Dingwall. At the same time it still sounds like a good bass. I could totally see having a Mikro as my only bass...I'm not saying that's what I'd take if forced to pick only one, but if I was forced to only use the Mikro I wouldn't feel like I was seriously handcuffed. Also the five string is a great platform for tuning E-C, though it's by no means necessary to go that way.
yeah, i also play quasi only 5ers, and run them also E-hiB (instead of C).
From E is the better option for me when dealing with FX. And i often play just unplugged.
The Talman 30" is also very well made ! its totally stunning !....i mean *Really* stunning for that price !! Thanks for the input on the mikro.

Since I primarily use my 6 string for my pedalboard, I went with the EADGCF for a while. Was great for the effects. Problem was, I didn't want to play the bass in any other context, as that F was too thin and I missed my B. Maybe if I get enough spare cash I can get another 6 and string it that way.
You have a custom 6 string fretless currently being built if I’m not mistaken?
I do, but that's fretless, and I want that B to sing on that one. I'm talking about if I feel impulsive and want to waste some money.
I have also a 6-string from my old Bassist days lying around. A very cheap one. Was just a test.
I bought several basses back then, just shortly bevore my accident, which had me quit as a Bassist.
I´ve set up that one also EADGCF last year, ...ahh wait: i think it is E-A-D-G-hiB-hiE.
I really like that tuning for going thru FX. Just, that Bass is way to haevy for me !
also neckdivy, which i really hate. (but i might invest in a set of headless tuners nevertheless, and ask the hangman to come by with his Bass-guillotine, later this year )
i had also my 5ers set up to hiE ( A-D-G-hiB-hiE),
and from all my playing thru FX, -thru my modular , and thru my PC plugin FX setup - was i definitly under the opinion that these higher strings work way better with quasi all these FX. I never felt that the hiE would be to high in pitch. (too thin from its feel, yes)
A reason i´m buying more basses, i want different tunings.
The B-string is just not working with most of my FX ! its quasi pointless
While i even can have a A-D-G-hiB-hiE strung Bass, sound *very* low with good pitch shifters.
so, in short, point is: the good FX work better with higher strings,
and many of the interesting FX sport a pitchshifter on board anyway.

On noise reduction, I quite like RX. I just use it as a plug-in and I’ve used it for all sorts of things, including a few special effects now and then. Their spectral stuff can do wonders. But I also don’t mind a thin layer of hiss or whatever on my recordings.

PPS— for free plugins, Valhalla’s options are some of my favourite. Used freqecho on EVERYTHING until delay came out.

That impulsive thing... as much as I'm looking forward to my Tom Clement 6 and am sure it's going to be great, I really wish I was more patient and had Cliff Bordwell build me another one. I just can't wait a year and a half, although with the way this pandemic's dragging on, I likely wouldn't need for gigging till then, anyways.Fixed it for you.
Also another thumbs up for Izotope RX. Although I will say I've been working hard to minimize any hiss in my recordings, so I don't have to use it, much.
I think this is certainly true in most cases, although I am getting better at designing sounds that sound good really low. I was doing some pedalboard sound design last night and came up with this killer thick string-like pad that sounded great on the open low B. Don't have that happen too much, but I think effects are also getting better at tracking at a wider range than they used to.
I'd still love to get another 6, though. Might pick up one of those Ibanez ones second hand.
As long as we are talking about software (among other things), does anyone have an iOS audio editor they really like, which works with longer files and a range of formats (wav, aif, m4a, etc)? I think I’ll be happier prepping samples on the couch or in bed than on my computer.
Back when I thought I was going to be doing a lot of multitracking on the iPad (narrator:"He didn't."). I was using Auria, and it seemed to be really good. I've heard they haven't updated it as frequently, so I don't know, and I haven't used it in a long time. Seems like Cubasis is the standard, if Garage Band isn't cutting it for you.

File managing is already a &^%&^*%^ headache on ipad, I cant imagine using a full DAW on one. (Narrator: he’s a huge failure at making creating anything with an ipad)
But, some can make freakin masterworks with one…..depends on workflow I guess
