Been playing with my bass rig and various bass synth pedals. I play a sequence into a loop pedal (Ditto, etc.) and then try to find a synth pedal and setting that gets me an acceptable synth sequencer sound. So far not so good. Most of these pedals, even the ones that track fine, seem to "slur" the sound if you play too fast; I guess they don't have a fast enough attack? The SY-1 tracks beautifully but it seems every setting has that slurring overtone sound. I have a few more pedals to try out, let's see if I can't find something that works. I guess I can always fall back on octave>fuzz or something.
Speaking of the SY-1, it has some really cool built-in sequencer modes. You play a note, and it arpeggiates it. You can adjust the speed of the sequencing with a knob, which is great, but there's no way to sync it to an external clock signal from, say, a drum machine or other synth gear. I've used this feature several times before on its own, but it would be nice to sync it up...
The quest for the perfect bass synth gear is never-ending.
