Thanks gang. It’s not great but it helps to see the evidence of where the loss is, and know that it’s not because of something worse. My uncle has funky vision issues, and each eye works better/worse in given distances, but he still takes some amazing photographs and prints them up with incredible focus. I asked how he does that, and he responded that he just knows how to use the tools he has available. I’ve got to take a similar approach, and I’ve gotta take steps to protect my remaining hearing. That might mean I skip going to certain live shows from now on. Ministry, with COC and Melvins might be a show to avoid, as much as I’d like to see/hear Melvins.

@steubig You had asked for my thoughts on the Starlifter. I’ve had it for a bit now, and I’m impressed. It’s got a nice EQ section and the Vintage and Scooped voices work well with my varied collection of basses. There’s not a lot of “magic” happening with it but there’s a good clean signal and the semi-para mids is a useful feature. I briefly plugged in to my interface and got a good sound for a foundation. I certainly can’t complain. As you might expect, it pairs well with my new Acinonyx, but also with the F Bass fretless, and everything else I’ve plugged in. If you’re looking for a simple, clean DI/Pre it’s a handy tool to have.

also playing with the 2 loudest @$$hat guitar players in town didnt help in one my previous bands.

different starting points from the “what happens when i try this patching idea?” and then following that down a path if i liked it (15 tunes here, with another 10 that were crap from the get-go). somethings might be too similar? dunno.

but i suppose they’re all related.

a lot of throwing paint at a canvas, really.

Maybe why are they grouped in 3 albums?
Is for example:
album 1: drones
album 2: rhythm concepts
album 3: throwing paint a see if it sticks.

i liked the order/flow as a whole (all 15). one was a bit too long, so i switched one tune with another and liked that sequence.

one long alb of 112 minutes seemed goofy.

then i was reading this story called “ambiguity machines” and there are three of them. and i like the idea of modular stuff being sort of an ambiguity machine.

voila, three albs of five tunes (and i like the primes thing too).

I had to sub the bass player and fill sonic space for the rhythm guitarist down with COVID
So yes, fat and loud. 2 amps

I started a separate thread about this XPND pedal board but I figured I’d share the pics here too. D’Addario has this new expandable board, so I grabbed one to allow me to customize my pedal arrangement. It’s a nicely made product and I was looking for something with an angled platform. It’s a luxurious step up from the Nano+ I was using along with some desktop Velcro. A little extravagant, but I’ve got a bug in my brain about organizing things for neat, efficient access.

The board expands to be pretty large, so some of you with extensive collections might be interested. Link Removed

Was well balanced between the 2 amps so it was loud but well balanced.
I sure as @?)(-& didn’t want stupid mush loud.
More “fill and compliment” kind of tone.
One amp was dedicated bass one more fill space for missing rhythm guitare.
My music buds in the crowd unanimously said that it sounded good. And they tell when stuff sounds like $h1t3

apparently they want more than a sub, they want me on bass to replace the other guy permanently.

That's great to hear! I'm so jealous. Right now seems particularly sketchy for us immunocompromised people. Covid numbers are still up, but everyone is letting down their guard and the govt is telling them to. The FOMO (or just the AMO--actual missing out) is strong.

We were listening to some of the Alessandro Cortini Buchla records this morning. I've been messing around with the Super 6.




I have tried running in mono: it sounds like a regular polysynth and if I run stereo modulations, I can get weird phasing. No demos of that for now.

I tried running into the Eurorack for more distortion. Sounds great, but then I get a lot more noise: this always happens when I run things into and out of Euro -- I'm sure it's the lack of uniform power specs. So too bad for that.

I then self-patched my Filter8 in LFO mode, ran it into the Super 6 CV input, and use that to modulate the LFO, which in turn modulated a bunch of other stuff.

Then I decided to see what I could do with the various options for distortion in it. So here's me hitting chords on my Linnstrument, and then tweaking stuff. ALL sounds are the Super 6. No EQ, added some compression to get levels up on the recording, and just to emphasize how "stereo" this thing sounds, I added a little reverb (Wet VST) but on mono. That's what this recording it.

It's interesting: some switches cut the volume for a minute, so I throw them I get a dip in the sound. Others allow for pretty wild switching back and forth. For instance, throwing on oscillator sync also reverses the order of oscillators and switches the osc FM from exponential to linear.
