I'm to the point with pedals that unless it blows my mind in a "I can use that in my sound and nothing else can do that", I'm not following much, nowadays.

Okay, since putting down the deposit on the Bordwell, I haven't slept for more than a few hours. I've already gotten the refund for the other one.
Not sure what body shape I'm going for, but I gotta have it be light. All of my basses are 10+ pounds and the one I just returned was 8.5, a real game changer.
Thinking camphor burl top, Nordstrand Big Blademan pickups (which, by design are very Wal-like), Audere Z preamp.
I don't wanna drive Cliff crazy with a thousand questions about wood tops and such, so I'm hoping to settle on something quickly and do my best to forget about it for a year.

I showed this group to my 16 year old son, who is quite musically adventurous, since I found them to be wonderfully quirky. He asked me never to do that to him again
It's funny: 24 hours ago all I knew was that CBA had a new pedal called "Habit" and that it was yellow.
By noon today my email inbox and social media feeds were clogged with over a dozen messages and links to videos about Habit!
The 30-second elevator pitch about Habit makes me think it could be cool and that I could definitely make use of it.
But my experience owning other CBA pedals (MOOD and Blooper -- which Joel at CBA refers to as the other two legs of the stool formed with Habit) makes me think that owning Habit now would just distract me from diving deeper into the stuff I already own. I'm almost tempted to not even watch all those Habit videos for that reason

It's the main reason that I will hesitate on complex pedals, but still have no problem buying preamps and distortion boxes. The learning curve isn't usually much. Plug in and blast away.
I read about it this morning, skipped around the demo, had a moment of “oh this would be fun” and then I was like “just no, I have a Blooper and a Cosmos. How much more serendipity do I need?”
@lordradish I read about your saga. So sorry it turned out that way. I’ve had really mixed results ordering custom. It’s funny what we notice and don’t. My current favourite, the MF raspberry touch guitar, has a side dot out of alignment. But it is so light, fits me like a glove, and plays so well. They did everything I wanted and more otherwise. I decided it was a love mark. They also built the body for my main 4-string, which has been through some, um, revisions, but it’s also well loved.
OTOH, the insanely custom expensive touch guitar I got from Germany was considerably heavier than promised. So disappointed.
My one time at NAMM I played a ubass I really liked, they had already sold that model but said I could order another one. So I did. It arrived very unbalanced and not at all like the one I played. Didn’t enjoy it at all.

Yeah, it's a gamble... I had a few people tell me privately afterwards that they've seen some shoddy woodworking from him, but I'd never know, considering all the fanboy reviews here on TB. I don't know if it's just peoples' first boutique and that clouds their judgment, but man... It's really hard to find some good objective reviews, at least in the 2 to 5k range. I was discussing some of the probs with the luthier today, omfg. Many of these problems were "how he always does it."
Funny, after I posted the 'saga' that night, I thought I might have come across as too nitpicky, but the consensus was overwhelming that there's no way in hell any of that should happen at that price point. Someone pointed out they wouldn't put up with that in a 300 dollar bass, let alone a 3000.
But I'm okay. I've already picked out most of my stuff for the new Bordwell. It's a year wait, and I want to get it all figured out now, unlike last time where I'd find some new kind of wood and then inquire about it, maybe change to that, etc.

Still figuring out the neck and fingerboard, thinking roasted maple neck because I love the way they look.
As to body type, I was originally thinking just like the one I already have in my avatar or a single cut, but now I'm leaning towards some of the more traditional ones.
I wanna spec it and literally forget about it for a year.
@JES ubass was bad? i had a couple back in the mid-90s that i thought were pretty nice. my main problem was that i wanted to hit the bass and those basses weren't made to withstand that kind of treatment.
my basic thing is to find something you like and stick with it. i'm pretty sure that what i have isn't prefect, but i know it works for me.
@lordradish imo, if you want to cut weight, you go headless. ime, at least a pound of wood and tuner weight off the end of the neck.

I did think about that but I really just don't dig that aesthetic.
I was pretty clear to Cliff that it has to be 8.5 pounds or less. I know that's a bit more of a challenge with a 6, but he's not worried about it.
As an aside, this place is awesome. My inbox was full of sympathy yesterday after my saga post (including a few of you fine chaps, as I expected). That and people trying to get me to tell them who the luthier was. It's not hard to figure out, but I really feel adamant about not trashing the guy because he made it right with me. If anyone asked me specifically about him, I'd share, but I've been on a self-improvement journey in the last year, and part of that involves not being a vindictive pr**k.

If he didn't make it right, I'd say out him. But I think you're right to take the high road here under the circumstances.
@steubig I have a hollowbody Kala ubass I love. This was a solid body 5 with a high C.
You are right about finding what works and sticking with it. I have also taken a long time to learn to cut and run on stuff that’s not.
