I found this (regarding caps):

Real Ps in the '50's used .1 caps, the same cap spec'd in MIA '57 RI and '62 RI P.

P never had a .022 -- '70's Js did.

Later '60's Ps and '70's Ps used the .047

Does anyone else have a black AV '57? I just noticed that the gold anodized pickguard on my black AV has had the outside edges polished so the aluminum shows. It is very subtle but really nice; like a fine silver thread separating the black body from the gold guard. My red AV '57 PG is gold all the way to the edges.
If it was the PO, nice job whoever you are.

The neck date is the best way. I sent a note to Fender about mine and they were very helpful. Takes a couple days for them to respond.
My '01 is V134... so your V156... could easily be an '05.
However, I have read that Fender did not absolutely build these sequentially.

If i have a black top on... it rubs onto the back of the bass?! and it's well hard to get off!

Dont do it with any other bass i have!

Have you waxed or treated the bass with anything? That is pretty weird to hear of the shirt color rubbing onto the bass and not the other way around. Perhaps a good coat of wax will at least make it easier to remove transferred color?

I am waiting for a call from my local music shop. I took my AV 62 P in for probably its first set up since it came out of the factory.

The tech also found a tiny crack in the headstock, which broke my heart, but he said he could make it like new again.

I'm never selling this thing, so I'm not concerned with the resale value, so the crack ain't no thang.

Who would abuse such a fine instrument?!

Just added a '62 AV RI to the stable. According to Fender, it is an '06. Oly white. Pics soon, I hope.
You can see pics of it in the TB For Sale section if you cannot wait but frankly, it is far better-looking than the pics in the ad.
