American Vintage Reissue's - Show 'em if ya got 'em.

As far as I can tell, they only made the '57 P & J, the '62 P & J and the '75 J in the AV series. That's Vnnnnnn serial numbers.
Anyone know otherwise?
I will ask our friends at Fender. They have been very helpful in the past.

They made them in Jazzes and Strats.

Apparently the 75 Reissues do not use that serial code system. Here is one on ebay and it clearly uses the standard Z + code that the one posted earlier uses. I learn something new every day.

I got a note from Fender that only lists their current offerings in the AV series as:

Cool. I've got a 62 Jazz and 57 Precision reissue that I assume were made in 2008 and 2007 respectively but I've never removed the necks to verify.
Just picked up a new American vintage 62'reissue in oly white a couple of weeks ago, the best bass i have owned so far.
The string spacing & wider neck took a bit of getting used to but it feels like home now.
I will try & get some pic's up later.
Only one problem i'm finding with it, the E string is a bit flat/dead sounding compared to the rest, even with new strings on !
I'm thinking of trying some different strings on it, still using the stock strings at the moment.
I just tried an old D'Addario EXL165 E' string & it seemed better (beefier, even though it was an old string) but the winding at the ball end was sat on the saddle, so not ideal.
What brand of strings are you guy's using ?

I have Fender 7350M (stainless 45/65/85/105) on my main bass. I really like these and will probably not change them. The worship team in which I play likes this bass and where it sits in the mix so I am hesitant to make any changes at all.
However, I am looking to try something different on my "new" AV. I was looking at maybe the stock 7250ML (NPS) but I may go out this week and pickup a set of 7150M's (nickels) instead. I have read a bunch of good things about the 7150's.

Looking at the fender site, it looks like the '75 AV's have a serial number on the headstock like Horny Toad's pictures show. Still no word from Fender about this but it sure looks like the '75 AV's do not use the same Vnnnnnn neckplate as the other AV's (including the other AV Jazz models). I am guessing that it has something to do with the three-bolt neck.
Got a note from our friends at Fender and it says, "As far as I know, all of those (AV's) start with a V or VN."
I am still thinking it is a three-bolt neck thing but for now, I guess it will remain a mystery!

Got another update (this poor horse! LOL).
The awesome customer service team at Fender dug a little deeper and reported that, "the 75’s used N and Z for the serial numbers". They think that they have seen V's as well but they are not certain.
How cool are those guys in Fender's Customer Support team!

There are indeed a couple Fender AV instruments that do NOT have the "v" serial numbers:
'75 RI Jazz Bass
and for those that play 6 strings - The AV 52 Telecaster has a regular numerical serial number on the bridge.
I used to own both, and unfortunately both are no longer mine

I did notice that Fender's web site has the "except for the The AV 52 Telecaster" posted for every year that they've made the AV series. I kind of ignored that since it is not a bass.

I purchased like a case of slowounds after they discontinued them! I still have four or five sets, mostly 50,70,85,105 and 45, 65,80,100. I payed like $9 bucks a pack for them.

Well I put the 7250ML's on last night. Stretched 'em a bit and tuned. Retuned this AM and set intonation. So far so good. I am not sure what was on the bass before but the gauge looks about the same. These are quite "bright" at the moment but I guess they will tone down after some more playing time. These are the same strings that ship with these basses which is why I started with them. I did not need to fiddle with the truss-rod (at least not yet) but the string height did change. Not sure why but it was easy enough to readjust at the bridge. The sustain still seems quite good but I need to get some miles on these before I make a decision to keep 'em. Still like the stainless 7350M's the best at the moment.
I also picked up some pure nickel 7150's in M and ML. Somewhere down the line I will try these as well.

I probably did not give them a fair shake but I have already pulled the 7250ML's from this bass. I put the 7150M's (pure nickel) on there and I like them. Not sure where these will sit in the mix as they seem to be kinda quiet (warm?) but they sound good at home. I like the heavier gauge too as this is the same gauge that I have on the red bass. Feels "right".
As an aside, there was a guy playing bass in church yesterday with a real 1960 Fender P-bass' a recent acquisition with tons-o-mojo. He will be back Thursday. It was wearing GHS Boomers. Sounded great.
