I had several of those years ago, a couple of preamps too. I still have one of the preamps sitting at home, it needs a new rectifier. I have a Fisher 400 receiver at home also to be recapped, I bought the kit last year but have been stuck out here for almost a year now. I am hoping to be able to pick up an MC-275 sooner or later, those McIntosh tube amps are the best sounding hifi amps I've ever heard on my life. I have a 60 lb 70's Marantz 2385 now for my main stereo, 250 WRMS both channels continuous into a 4 ohm load with negligible distortion. I use two pairs of large Advents with it and I still need to be careful the thing's so powerful. No pictures here though but SS amps are kind of boring looking compared to tube amps though anyway.

It is now. It was a basket case when I got it. I had it down to a bare chassis. Replaced the tube sockets with ceramic, most of the resistors, all caps, added the SDS cap board, etc, etc. Tolex was in pretty good shape but dirty. Finding a speaker I liked was a quest. Ended up with a JBL D140F and an Altec 421A. Both sound good but prefer the JBL.

I have the same thing in my B-15S, those JBLs are nice sounding speakers.

That is one slick wiring job. Looks like they replaced the wiring harness with a circuit board.

Of course the trick to making something like that work, is to make it work, and it can involve some subtle engineering to make it so that minor dimensional tolerance variations don't kill you.

I've had the Dynaco stuff for about 20 yrs with the recent upgrades you saw in the pics. I use them with a pair of Dynaco A25 10" 2-way speakers I've had for about 45 yrs. I use all of this with a 45 yr old Pioneer PLA-45D turntable and Shure cartride. It's surprising how loud that blistering 35w/channel can be and still be clean. You can't stay in the room with it much past half volume. That SDS cap board really helped the bass dynamics.

It's about time for a couple of new tubes in the preamp. After I finished the mods there was a difference in voltages between channels. Figured I had done something wrong. I swapped tubes and the problem followed the tube. Can't really tell anything from listening.

I am aware that there could be some differences due to tube age, resistor values/tolerances, etc. I did have one plate load resistor (100k) that was out of tolerance (quite a bit more than it's 5% tolerance). I had a few of those and found two that were with 1K of each other. That made a minor improvement. When I swapped right/left channels the voltage difference followed the tube. I was concerned I did something wrong in my work or some component was out of whack. The problem following the tube told me my work was okay.

The assembly/owners manual pretty much says it's not a problem unless the voltages are over 20% out. Alrighty then!

If I noticing a significant difference in sound or levels between channels I'll worry about it then. I have no complaints on the way this stuff sounds!
