Ampeg B-200Rs $280, Shipped

Invalid Link Removed

Apparently one day only, 28 June, 2009.

American Musical Supply.

Not making any comments about the amp itself, but that's a long deal.

Why am I not surprised that you found this too?;)

We apparently have similar taste in gear, and an eye for a great deal!

Yep I ordered mine first thing this morning:hyper:

Here we go again:D

EDIT: They have a great deal on some Peavey Cirrus BXP's too, if you haven't seen them yet.

I live for the deal!

I don't know if I'm going to get one or not.

I have a B-100R that I never use and I'm not clear on whether or not they ever got the problems ironed out with that B-200R buzz/rattle business.

I think all the tons of B-stock B-200Rs are the ones that were sent back to have that repaired.

Invalid Link Removed, but honestly, I wouldn't have that thing as a gift.

I've never had a problem with it. BTW, mine is US-made.
I was surprised to confirm that the B-200R was indeed briefly manufactured at the ill-fated Yellville facility before it was closed.

Did the Yellville B-200Rs also have the notorious rattle problem?

What was the eventual cause/fix for that, anyway? I seem to recall something about the speaker frame vibrating against the chassis, but I don't remember exactly.

Man. They can barely give these things away now. Too bad.
LOUD's desperate for cash flow. They've been dumping stocks of Crate stuff for as low as twelve cents on the dollar for many months.

The B-200R was also the first big trainwreck on their exchange-only warranty plan they had for a while, thanks to the plague of those rattles in the initial imports.

I'm a little concerned about that. The way I see it though, with that kind of savings, I can tighten a few nuts and bolts.;) If it is beyond something I can fix, I can always send it back. I'm hoping, like you mentioned, that these were sent back and repaired. I'm really more worried about electrical problems. But I've not had any trouble with AMS before, so I don't think I'm risking very much. I'm just looking for good Ampeg tone, and since I don't have the bucks for a flip-top, I think this is worth a shot.

Really? I wasn't familiar with the Cirrus BXP (the Cirrus, yes and older USA Peaveys), so I had to do some research. I finally found one in a Music store, and , well, I didn't love it. Nothing really wrong with it, but it just isn't my thing. I was surprised that in person, it did nothing for me. Didn't take long for me to decide that I wouldn't go for that deal(but I still believe it's a good deal for someone who's into them).
But if anyone wants to give me one as a gift, I'd gladly take it:p...but be warned, that finish on the back of the neck has got to go!:D

GAT DAMN.

***. More deals that are coming up while I'm dead broke.
+1, brother...+1 :scowl:

I'll just say: Becareful with that B-stock stuff. I got a B-stock B-100R from Musician's Friend and it lasted 1 hour. :eyebrow:
It made a horrendously loud midrange tone then "pop" and it died. Power supply was dead and it wouldn't power up anymore. I had to return it the MF so it wasn't much of a deal after all.
...I'm just saying...

I absolutely love the sound and looks of these things, and that's a great price.

BUT, a friend of mine went through 3 different ones, and every one of them had wierd buzzing/rattling issues.:hmm:

So, I really don't know if I'd want to take the chance on one, even at that price.

What risk? If it's bad it goes back at their expense.

You're out nothing. :hmm:

Personally, though, I'd spring for the extra $20 for a new one with free extended warranty. At that price it just seems prudent, particularly with the likelihood of that extremely fragile diamond vinyl being chewed up on a B.

But I'm going to pass. I have a B-100R sitting here on top of an SWR Black Beauty, two nice 1x15 combos I never use, so I hardly have a purpose to get another one.

Still, I'm really curious as to how a simple vibration problem has caused so much grief with these.

Agreed 100%.

That's what's nice about these websites that offer free shipping and free return shipping: 0 risk to the customer.

Not to mention the "gold coverage" or whatever for these is cheap and covers even catastrophic physical damage.

Mine was ordered from Sam Ash...although it rattled/buzzed, they would only pay return shipping if I wanted to exchange. I inquired about what happens if the exchange is also messed up. They then said they would pay return shipping and give me my money back (they need a chance to repair the situation). So I am swapping mine.

Honestly though, if you are sensitive to extra buzzing/rattles, I can't see this amp being good. Some people haven't had these issues with the amp, but the nature of the design points to eventual buzzing problems down the road anyway. Plus, getting to the tube is a major pain IMO and risks damaging the tolex. (yeah, I know...buzz kill).

I am going to swap mine with hope that there are no issues (as the amp does sound good), but if you have a B100r, not really worth the hassle (as long as you have PA support).

I got mine for $299 shipped...
