Ampeg B-200Rs $280, Shipped

At one point GC told me that casters didn't come with either the B-100R or the B-200R.

For what that's worth.

If anything.

They don't show casters in the pictures I've seen so far, either.

OK.

It's not going to cause me to loose any sleep that's for sure, considering everything is working/sounding great and for the price I paid.:hyper:

I have seen where several PPL have mentioned casters coming w/their amp so I thought I ask Dino if I should have gotten them. I haven't seen a pic of any either, but if folks say they came with theirs, I believe 'em.

I'm counting my blessings on this one, so if I ever HAVE to have casters...I don't mind buying them.;)

Casters didn't come with my B100r (SLM).

They came with the B200r I just returned...they were packed in a 2 inch cardboard top but to access them you had to flip over the top. I could see someone missing them if they quickly just took the amp out. Then again, I am sure some people didn't return them and the big box places probably have no idea. So with B stock, the amp might be missing them.

I ordered a B-Stock from Zzounds a couple weeks ago and it has a horrible buzzing/vibration issue. I'm talking anywhere over 2-3 on the master volume, this thing rattles like crazy if you hit any note on the E string. I am sending it back.

This is my second B-stock I've had to send back, First was a Behringer 180w 15" w/ a blown tweeter :rollno:.

Now I am looking for another amp, as I am afraid to order another B200R.

I've dropped my B200R down a flight of stairs and has worked for 5 years now.

My guitarist just bought a 75-watt Mesa Boogie Mark III head with a 4x12 full of V30s and my B200R still has enough volume to be heard.

I love this amp. But it's time for something a bit more professional.

You should really stop buying B-stock stuff. Its asking for trouble.

I got really lucky with my B200R as I bought mine from the first batch ever built. Not one single problem.

Still no problem with my B stock B200R from AMS. Looks like they are out of the B stock now, though.

Also, still no word from Ampeg as to whether or not casters should have come with it or not.

I really like mine, great looking and plenty of power. No rattles. I will list everything I did to mine:

1. Removed 2 screws on each side which hold the amp in and removed the (unplugged) amp. It's a tight fit and you have to be careful not to touch any electronics inside. Unplug the speaker.

2. Drilled 2 holes in the aluminum chasis where the large black heat sink is, on the outside of the amp. Mine was held on by 2 screws and nuts and could have been the rattle culprit. The heat sink has the holes pre drilled, but no screws. I used 2 screws, lockwashers and nuts.

3. I put a strip of 3/8" or 1/4" black foam insulation strip (self adhesive, you can get at a hardware store) along the amp chasis near the heat sink which runs the entire length of the amp. You can see that when the amp is installed, this long strip is underneath the amp and butts up against the cabinet, a definite spot that can rattle.

4. I pulled the grill by starting a screw in one corner of the grill and ran it in about a 1/2"
then using pliers, pulled the front grill off. Removed the speaker. Used Liquid Nails and ran it along all of the inside joints (disposable gloves worked great to smooth out the glue.) Used 1/8" self-adhesive foam insulation and installed it on the speaker baffle, so it would hit the speaker, and put the speaker back on. Make sure the wires don't lay on the speaker, put a loose knot in them to take up any slack if you have to. Also removed the horn and used the insulation under the horn. Replaced grill.

5. Installed amp and made sure the chrome screws which hold the amp in were tight.

I let the glue dry for 24 hours and no rattles. Mine is a non-U.S. SLM model and had a slight rattle on certain notes, so I tried the above as a first attempt at eliminating it and it worked. I didn't do them one at a time, so I don't know if just one of the things I did would have fixed it.

So, for about an hour of my time and $10 worth of materials, I got a great little combo amp. This is the smallest setup I would gig with. I think the rattle problem is partly due to the power of the amp and the small size of the cab.

Sounds to me like the rattle is due more to corner-cutting in the factory, based on your description of the work you had to do to make the amp usable. My cabs are Bag End 15s, which are smaller than the Rocket Bass combos, and I can put more than 200W into them without making them rattle.

It wouldn't bother me to patch up a used amp, especially if I'd bought it cheap, but to have to do that kind of surgery on any product right out of the box to make it work as it should is absurd.

I have to agree with you there. Plus, your work would not be permanent as you have to take the amp apart to replace the tube when the times comes.

I found that the B200r was louder than my B100r, (11:30 on the B200r was about 2pm on the B100r), but that is my stage volume so I don't really need anymore.

The B200r is a nice amp (if you don't have issues), but if you have a B100r, it is not that much of an upgrade (and will require taking it apart for a tube change eventually). Not a big deal, just the reality of the amp. For $299 though, it is a good deal (as long as it does not vibrate in a manner which annoys you).

I don't think the cab itself rattled, it's the combination of the amp and the cab screwed together. What I could have tried is moving the amp away from the cab to check if they would rattle apart from each other. It could have been more of a (non-electrical) buzzing sound than a rattle in my case.

I bought mine used and paid more than what they are going for new now. My comment was that it was worth fixing, a great small combo. Great tone, plenty of volume, line out with a separate volume control.

did someone say x 2??

Got the $299 SamAsh tip from this thread and ordered one ASAP. The amp just arrived and after a thorough testing, it checks out fine.

I sat down with it and pushed it pretty hard and it rattled everything in the room but remained fine itself. I've been wanting one of these for a while and that deal was too good.

I'm thinking of going for a second now

It came with casters too.
