Ampeg B-200Rs $280, Shipped

Got the $299 SamAsh tip from this thread and ordered one ASAP. The amp just arrived and after a thorough testing, it checks out fine.

I sat down with it and pushed it pretty hard and it rattled everything in the room but remained fine itself. I've been wanting one of these for a while and that deal was too good.

I'm thinking of going for a second now

It came with casters too.

:(

This is the sound of me really wanting a b200r

.......

It came with casters too.

FWIW, I called AMS and they insisted that it didn't come with casters. I asked them why did some people get them then? They said to call AMPEG, I haven't gotten through to anyone yet, and AMPEG has yet to answer my emails. I told AMS that yes, my order was B-stock, but B-stock is SUPPOSED to be the COMPLETE product.

In the end I can tell that if I want some casters, I will have to buy them myself....so if anyone cane give me some measurements on what size I need to run down, I'd appreciate it. :D

The casters are packed between cardboard in the box. Just from opening the box, you wouldn't see them. My advice would be to order the amp and look for the casters. If for some crazy reason they are not included anymore (my made in china one had them), then you can get them for around $5-$6 each.

Now...if the casters are your only worry, then it is a score. The buzzing hopefully will not be an issue for you.

BTW...I played my B100r (SLM) with the master on 9 the other night for my gig. No buzzing at all. That is a great amp and can handle the power that it has (not sure about the new ones).

A few weeks ago, I got one a brand new one from Same Day Music for $285 shipped. I emailed them when Sam Ash had the B-200R for $299.99 and Same Day offered me one for $285 under their guaranteed lowest price policy.

So far no rattles (except my house!), and the amp works fine with and without the horn. Mine came with casters, but like others have mentioned they were inset in the top piece of thick cardboard packing material.

I'm very happy, especially for $285.00!!!

i've gotta say, the B200R is an amazing deal. it's one of the best tube-preamp amps i've ever played. i really would like to hear it next to a B-15.

if Ampeg made these all-tube, 200watts, hand-wired, gain, bass, mid, treb, master, with no hi, mid and lo boosts, no DI and more flexible external speaker arrangements, I would run 2 of these together in a second.

I got mine today. I bought a new one, not B stock. Overall, I'm pretty impressed but there are a few downsides to it. The tolex is very cheap and I could see this getting torn off very easily. Out of the box there was a small tear on the side of the cabinet tolex. I'm willing to live with this if there aren't any of the other issues.

My daughter was already in bed by the time I got a chance to try it out so I couldn't really turn it up to any real volume. As a result, I don't know if mine has the infamous rattle issue.

I did try the horn no horn thing and there was no problem there.

On a side note, the cabinet says that it was designed in the USA by SLM Electronics and Made in China. Do the units from LOUD say LOUD on them? I'm wondering if I have a pre-Loud technologies unit. This could be good and bad depending.

I'm hanging on to the box and all the packing materials in case one of the QC issues pops up in the next 30 days. The torn tolex is probably enough to justify a return at their cost but I do like the tone and overall "vibe" of the bass. Tomorrow, I am going to run it through the paces at a louder volume and see if it p**ps out on me.

Mine showed up today. I noticed a big gash in the side of the box before I opened it, but fortunately they double boxed it so no damage to the amp. Pulling it out of the box I was stunned at first sight by the beauty of it. The tolex, grill and overall condition was immaculate, brand new, it even had
the protective clear sticker over the control panel. I freaked a bit because I thought they didn't include the casters, but after searching deeper in the packing materials I found them.
I was suprised how easy I could pick up the amp by the single handle on top, it balanced well. I am not a big guy but I was able to carry it one-handed around the house ok.

I was able to crank mine up pretty good. I was a little cautious because I thought I should break in the speaker for a while before I see just how loud it will get. After a bit I put the gain up to about 7 and the master to about 5 and it was roarin'- It's only one 15" so I don't expect it to sound bigger than one of my 2x12's, but it gets pretty loud. I ran it pretty flat with all the gain buttons engaged, nice. It can be pretty clear sounding with the tweeter on, but what it seems to do best is what I would consider to be an old school rock or R&B tone. It's fairly dark sounding but the top end projects pretty smooth IMO and the tweeter does not sound harsh to me. It seems to sound better and better to me as it warms up, I don't know if that's my imagination or not but I found myself digging the tone more the longer I played on it, and it seemed to develop a nice blossoming richness in the lower frequencies.

All the screws are well tightened, and there was no audible buzzing in the unit at high volume. It seems to be a solid amp that will need only routine maintenance depending on how frequently and how hard it gets pushed. It is a great looking amp and I want to get a cover to protect that nice tolex, which will get torn to hell if you let someone handle it who doesn't see the thing as a piece of art. I think it's a beautiful amp. I will continue to play it over the next month and if problems develop, send it back if I need to.
For now I'm more than satisfied for what I paid for it. :bassist:

And it does have the same writing, "Designed in St. Louis USA by SLM- manufactured in China.

Not your imagination, bassvi. I've noticed the same thing for 3 and a half years.

Before my band plays, I usually turn the amp on with the Master Volume down for at least 20 minutes. Gotta warm up that pre-amp tube.

Awesome! I'm flying home tonight and will have a chance to try mine out tomorrow -- hoping for the same result!
