Ampeg Micro-VR stack? Anyone tried or has the pair?

We'll have a full review (with two of the 2x10's) in issue #4, but based upon the brief time I spent with the Micro-VR and one of the 2x10's, I was impressed by how much of the full-sized SVT vibe is was able to deliver. There are sonic differences, to be sure, but it was at least "reminiscent" of the big brother, and I consider that to be an accomplishment.

Tom.

I can't wait Tom! Your video on YouTube was the clincher for getting one.

I have the 210 cab only. It sounds pretty damn good. I pair it with an LMII. I've only used it for home practice at this point because I haven't had a small enough/quiet enough gig yet. The sound definitely has the sealed svt cab vibe going. I would say with 2 of these cabs (4 ohm load) you could cover a small to medium gig easily.

I've noticed that a few TBer's have paired the cab with the LMII or III?. Must be great together.

The Markbass F1 sounds pretty nice thru it to, tho it's not quite the same vibe as either the MB LM series, nor the Micro SVT head.

Surprisingly, the Micro SVT/Cab is not a bad DB rig.

I've got one... (this is probably not helpful) I am using it as a preamp... to-date, what I'm most impressed with (in terms of what it adds to my sound) is the smooth, warm bottom end... well defined-punch... I'm not surprised double bass players are such fans of the Micro VR...

As a stand-alone amplifier it lacks a little volume/power...

i tried one at GC yesterday too...and I almost irresponsibly bought it. It's pretty bright, but has a decent amount of low-end and punch to it. It's the cheapest micro head i've seen at only $300 new. I also was impressed at it's approximation of a full SVT stack.

The second cab is here.
It does add to the volume, or course, by doubling cone area.

Some heads seem to go "whoa; 4 ohms! nice, here's your extra power now."
This head doesn't seem to have that reaction.

But, the two cabs together, especially stacked in a line array, are going to be plenty for me, I believe.

Ooohhhhh...that's probably close.
I played a big outdoor job with it last night.
It worked well, and sounded nice, but; it was up against the input and output limiters-nuttin left to give.

Remember folks-this is a small rig, with small power, and small, sealed cabs.
It is what it is, and expecting it to be more than that isn't realisitic.

Wow, I am actually impressed that it worked in a big outdoor gig setting! :bassist:

+1 to the "don't expect it to be more than what it is," and another +1 for "it does a great job of doing what it was designed to do" (which you were saying between the lines, or something like that... :ninja:).

Tom.

Wow! That is way more than I expected. I would have never thought to even attempt that! Thanks Chef! I was curious more that anything on what two cabs would do.

Qualifier:
This was with:
Bluegrass-on upright: a lot of acoustic instruments
Cajun: me on Precision; the rest still acoustic, plus a drummer and accordian.
Enough FOH that the back line was supplemental to delivery for the audience, not sole supply for delivery to the audience.

It would have been expecting too much of it to expect that it would do that, especially in a louder band kinda context, I think.

However, at some point, I want to try a different head with the two cab setup to see if it's the head or cabs, or combo that's the limiting factor here....

Cool, thanks for the clarification.

And feel free to save some of the deets for the review... :ninja:

:smug: :p JK, it's cool to share a little info here, for sure.
