Question:
Assuming the premise that a vertical stack of matched speakers is best...
And in view of the PF210 drivers being oriented at 45 degrees....

Which cabinet pairing would sound best, in terms of the second cab adding to the first cab without interference?

2x PF210 or 2xPH115???

I'd say both about equal. It's not so much destructive interference like comb filtering and phasing as it is beaming of highs and upper mids, and both cabs have about equal distance from one side of the drivers to the other, so they'll beam about equally.

just bought a couple of these heads, they sound great, and very portable. Just one thing; is it just me, or does anyone else find it odd that there are no reviews for this amp on Harmony Central? Since it's allegedly one of the best selling amps of the past couple years, I would expect that there would at least be a few reviews.

Maybe, but from the reviews I've seen there, they ain't worth squat anyways.
When I looked for reviews of gear I was interested in, every one I checked was positive, in fact, every review I checked about anything was glowing.
Seemed everyone posted reviews just after they'd got new gear & were in the "honeymoon phase" where it all sounds great.
Give it 6 months.........

I believe that is because Harmony Central went through some changes a few years back. It used to be very easy to navigate and the reviews were pretty great as long as you discarded the most positive and the most negative sometimes. Now it is nearly impossible to navigate and the search engine is useless. It used to be if you wanted to know about a specific item, you simply clicked several times until you found your item. I don't use Harmony Central anymore. I go to Google and type the item + the word "review". I still have to pick and choose who to listen to though. If someone says, "just got this today," I don't bother. I enjoy reading other people's thoughts and ideas before buying new equipment.

+1 to GregT. I didn't even remember that HC was still around until you just mentioned it. I cruised over there just for kicks and it's not AS bad as it used to be when they first revamped it, but it's still very much a struggle. I've gotten MUCH better reviews and feedback on gear here on Talkbass, and BY FAR. I'm like Greg and like to read what other people think about gear, so I do the same thing... head to Google and include the word "review." More often than not, it refers me back to Talkbass about the gear I look up anyway. lol

Tweeter is for those who want that real snappy treble. I usually leave it it off, but occasionally I'll put it on the -6 db setting just to get a slight amount of extra treble. One of the better sounding tweets I've heard.

It does what a tweeter is designed to do... Reproduce the high frequency content to your sound. Having the tweeters on full is a little too zingy for my taste, so I leave the switch at -6. Occasionally I'll shut it off if I really to to dial in a vintage (Motown style) sound.

so the -6 setting is a good half way house?

I dont like to eq my pf500, I leave everything flat for the purest tone so I'm wondering what the equivalent is on the cab. will -6 give me a totally neutral tone combined with the amp being flat?

I play a MM stingray with flats and I like to eq from the 3 band on the guitar. Though I usually leave it totally flat.

Should I press the button on the pf500 that reduces the input by 15dB if I'm using the stingray?

What difference does it make?

Thanks...

same for me cept with a 6x10. Great tone, run a BDDI and blend 50/50 between that and the amp's tone with a standard P, with excellent results. LOVE THIS AMP. :bassist::bassist:

I was running my tweeter off until recently and now I like to run it at -6. Recently I also started putting a little more low-mids into my tone; it made it so I could hear everything a lot better. And I am one of the people who joined talkbass after being directed here so many times as the result of a search.

The 15dB pad - just reduces the input level of whatever bass you're plugging into it. So reducing the gain does the same thing. No need to use it, but can if U want. It can make it easier to adjust levels if yr bass has a very hot output
I almost never use it- even with hot basses. ONLY time I've used it is with my '74 Telecaster bass- as it's SO hot it runs near any amp's input into overdrive :D

Bah...pure tone schmure tone. Turn the knobs to where it sounds good. If it happens to be with everything at noon, so be it. But "purest tone" is one of those buzzwords invented by someone without a clue of what "pure tone" is, and doesn't realize that it doesn't exist.

And the -15db button should ONLY be used if you can't get a clean tone any other way but pressing it in. I have a lot of active basses and have never once used it on any amp.

I used to be a "leave it flat" guy as well. Flat EQ on the amp, flat EQ on the bass, and it's blasephemy anywhere else. Then I came to Talkbass. Lol

We all have our favorite settings, and to each their own. You can get a lot of other great tones out of the PF500... but not by leaving the EQ flat! ;) ;) One thing I've learned about the 500 is that it loves to have it's knobs turned! (giggity)

I also agree that "pure tone" is a buzzword, and we all have our own definitions. Mine is "transparent." If that's what you're after, the PF500 probably isn't the right amp for you. Compared to my Shuttle 6, my 500 is warmer, more vintage and a little dirty, whereas the Shuttle is much more clean and modern. Both are great amps/sounds but the PF noticeably colors my tone.

Another thing to think about it that leaving the EQ dead flat may not be right for the venue. One room may require a bass boost because the room just swallows it up, another may need a bass cut to avoid mud.

I don't remember who, but I recently read someone saying "use your ears, not your eyes." So true!
