heres another video testing out my new ampeg pf - 500 amp and pf - 210 he cabinet , the cabinet is daisy chained to my yorkville xc 410 cabinet ( live rig ) , jamming to Twisted Sister's " I Wanna Rock " .. recorded with my Q3HD video camera .... also using a different bass ( Epi Nikki Sixx Sig.) and different settings on amp ( sorry bout the little flubs , was one of the first times we played this song )

After swearing off this micro-amp stuff almost 2 weeks ago, after having learned my RH450 was really an RH236. Here I am trying to not tar every micro-amp with the same brush (Thanks again, Jimmy) ;) I tested one of these out recently and decided to order one (who wants the floor model? not me!)

First impressions now that I've had a chance to crank the PF500 at home? What a beast. Sounds much more alive than my RH450 did, but it doesn't sound too much like my SVP-Pro either. Its got that Ampeg sound, but its somehow different to my ear... hard to explain. I'm running the amp almost flat with just one notch extra mid, and one notch less highs (probably going to bump the bass down one or two notches after playing around a bit more)

I got my last gig ever on the 17th, a pseudo reunion gig for a band I was in, just a quick set or two outdoors and done. I'm going to just play for my own enjoyment from then on out. But it will let me see if the PF500 could've handled gigging. If the layer of dust on my desk that was shaken from my drop ceiling tiles in here is any indication, the PF500 should do just fine. (the RH450 never shook the ceiling tiles as much as the PF500 has)

I can't believe this amp was under $400.

Got mine and just spent about 15 minutes with it. Good grief this thing sounds awesome.

I'm fixin' to get a new ampeg 8x10 to run under my pf 500. I've been using rented 8x10's and it sounds great through these things. So I've decided to get one myself. It will be a pain to move, but it will be worth it.

Good to hear- What's your impression of the cabs?

And on that note... not only did I have to send my PF115 back, now my PF500 head just blew. Heard a pop and got the burnt electrical smell. Powers on, but it's stuck in fault mode with no fan and no power section. Interestingly- the preamp section is still operable. Ampeg is sending me a replacement once they get some stock in so it will be a direct swap (Thanks!). Gotta love working the bugs out of a new line!

How many hours do you think was on your pf500 before it blew?

I just bought a TECH 21 VT bass for the 3rd time to try with my PF500, I tried similiar settings to this link @ :30 seconds Tech 21 VT Bass - SansAmp Character Series - YouTube I have my mid selector at 1 & eq flat on the amp, with the gain around 1:30. I've always liked the PF500 on it's own but with the VT bass & that setting it sounds great. I get just enough breakup & dynamics to fit with the styles of music I play for the near future, that is until I get the scratch together to buy & a try Darkglass B3K.

Not to get into an apple and oranges discussion but now after owning both SVT210AV cabs and the PF115's now, the PF115's just sound right. The 210's were a little middy compared to these.

I just had another 30 minutes to break out the P with flats and it sounds fantastic.

Edit: I owned the B15 R for a while and this thing sounds scarily similar. Missing just a touch of the tube saturation and compression on the initial attack. I can't wait for the cabs to break in.

I have a P-bass, vintage pups, Labella flats and a piece of foam at the bridge. I like the sweetness the mid range bump adds. It's just a very even, crisp tone. It could be the stack as well. It works for me. B100R's are going for $400 around here. I'm considering selling mine and buying the 15 cab to capture the B15 sound with 250 watts and more headroom.

Gotta love a Sixx (Gibson or Epi) through an Ampeg- those pups are way hotter than the standard Epi or even the current TB+ Gibbies

Tru dat, but damn if I don't still love 'em! Scratched the hell out of one cab today stopping really fast in the car, but at least it was in the back and nothing on the front or sides. I can deal. Funny, but the soundman told me I wasn't in the PA at all, and this was at a gig outside in front of a couple thousand people, and I went out in the crowd a couple times and it sounded really good.

Ya, freakin' brilliant, huh? I'm going to get another cab pretty soon.
