Ampeg Rocket Bass Combos

Yes it’s a little odd. I’ve kept the 115 but it’s certainly more mid focussed with less bass than the eminence 112. I can turn the bass up and dial back the mids and get a pretty good sound with my precision with flats. Perhaps there’s something wrong with my unit but I doubt it. I suspect if I took it back they would just tell me I need to adjust the eq. Alternatively maybe the Lavoce 115 has more mids than the previous eminence version. Potently due to feedback about it being too focussed on the low end. I’ll take it to band practice this weekend and give a test at volume. I think it gets more full as the volume as increased.

If my first RB115 has those tonal characters like yours, sure i would not trade for RB112.

More mid focus on Ampeg , more useful tone shaping with both ultra Lo/Hi engage.

Will visit GC soon to experience the Lavoce inside's RB115 .

I've a question for the RB'ers.

I've a Ampeg BA115V2 that stays parked at the band's rehearsal area.
Love the BA's easy to dial in sound and it's KISS approach to having just afew knobs to dial in that sound.

My question, comparing the BA's and RB's preamp controls they appear to be the same. Is it the same preamp in the RB's only with a different power section?

Thank-you everyone.

Here is my stacked Rb112 update.

Now the second RB112 with Larvoce driver sound become darker than first day which already sound darker than the Rb112 with Eminence driver.

The Larvoce RB112 also lacking the open upper mid voice , both Ultra hi/Lo engage and dial up the Treble knok still sound boring-boxy. SGT engage also lacking the SVT-ish tone which i can easily get from Eminence RB112 !

I will swap both preamp to try out if new preamp has different tone character on the new RB112.

If they”re going into a steel insert use “blue” loctite on the threads.

If they’re going directly into wood I’d remove the driver(s), open up the holes a bit, install t-nuts, buy some new screws to match the t-nut threads and use “blue” loctite on those threads.

I ended up selling my Lavoce RB115. My previous Eminence speaker Rb112 sounded very different. Loved it. The 15 had a harshness to the highs I couldn’t EQ out. But this might have been good for rock or similar. Just not for me.

If you looking the early day Eminence Rb115 tone, try the Larvoce Rb112.

I also need mention that the Larvoce RB112 work slightly better on B string tone while volume knob to 2 o'clock compare to Eminence Rb112 . The B sound slightly compress and less round on Rminence RB112 . Otherwise, Eminence RB112 has tighter tone.

I moved to another brand after my experience with the 115. Seems the 112 is the one to go for within the RB series.

Interesting. I love my Eminence RB115, and I was considering buying a second one. But it appears that if I ended up getting a newer Lavoce version of the RB115, it would not sound the same. Are they at least similar sounding?
Even i swap the preamp/power amp section, both still sound different on both Eminence and Larvoce driver. For single combo, I still prefer the tonal produce from Eminence RB112.

The Larvoce RB112 sound fuller, but she has the fq range on low low mid that can't remove or tweak with EQ .

Meanwhile, the SGT also work differently too, the Larvoce RB112 pretty alike normal overdrive effect , even on low setting, she just add overdrive/distortion. Unlike Eminence RB112 , when i set the Grid within 8-10 o'clock along with level on 3 o'clock, she give me the SVT like gain juice instead distortion, work great on all my Pbass even PJ bass. I can hear that Grind and the tone are solid tight.

I also has the old preamp with me which has scratch SGT pot , this preamp sound and SGT control has no different to Eminence Rb112 .

Does the Lavoce look different enough from the Eminence that one could remove the grill and tell which one is in the cabinet ?
Here is the compare on 2 RB112. The left one which has 8 mounting screws and smaller dust cap are Eminence. Right site are Lavoce driver.

I recently got an RB210 and was loving everything about it….until I tried the DI out and there’s a very loud buzzing noise that I can’t dial out. It’s disappointing, because I knew someone who had the RB112 and it didn’t seem to do that. Does anyone have troubleshooting on this?
