Ampeg Rocket Bass Combos

I hope so too but I think the sound of an amp is very hard to judge from YouTube
I wouldn’t say very hard. Today’s technologies allow us to get a much better general picture of the sound. Besides, it looks like the RB combos are not super complex amplifiers, you got a 3-band EQ, and that’s as simple as it gets.

I base 99% of my gear purchase decisions on Youtube videos and so far it hasn’t let me down.

True but there are too many factors in play: The bass that is being used, the player's style and abillty to make the amp sound good, the mic used, the YouTube compression. This all makes is hard to judge the sound and especially the feel of an amp.

I think the RB combos are going to be great the only thing I'm concerned about is quality, I'm hoping the quality is well made and not cheaply put together and I want long term reliability as well, I have a Roland Bass Cube 30 that my wife bought for me in 2004 and it's still performs flawlessly.
I think we all share that concern. By now I think the class D kinks should be worked out by everybody. It sure looks high quality.

Nice video! Sorry but non-Japanese speaker here :help:. Could someone at least translate the total impressions? This man seems quite happy with the 210 though :bassist:

I turned on YouTube's closed captioning and then, in the video settings, changed the subtitles to Auto-translate into English. I'm not sure how much useful information I gained by doing this, but it really showed me the incredible differences in how subjective experiences are described in different languages. It really makes me wonder what non-English speakers think of when we describe sounds with words like bright, warm, tight, punchy, etc.

+1!

I'm gonna check out a 112 Rocket once their available in my area.

But, in all honesty, if the Rocket Bass Combos are no better built than the PF115HE cabinet I owned for a short time, it'll be a BIG NO on the Rockets for me!

What was wrong with your PF115HE?

(This is just speaking to the PF115HE that I personally owned.)

The Tolex was peeling off the cab the day I got it.

Lid clamps wouldn't fasten securely.

3 of the 4 casters would fall out any time the cab was lifted.

Biggest problem, the rattling/buzzing cabinet.

I tightened everything I could find inside and out, didn't help.
Removed front grille strips, didn't help.
Put on a wider, thicker seal strip between the flip-top lid and cabinet, didn't help.
Finally I bought a bunch of screws (20) and washers and semi permitally fastened the lid on, that got it!

Then I took it to a band rehearsal, (moderately loud classic rock group), it never came close to keeping up without distortion.

Week or so later I traded it off at a loss and don't regret parting with it.

Wow.... Hopefully Yamaha will turn this ship around and get it pointed in the right direction. They have a very good brand name and I just don't see them jeopardizing that over a shoddy product. With Yamaha in control that's the only reason I jumped in and ordered the Rock Bass combo as the reviews started coming in. I'm using the combo for home practice and a snatch and go for rehearsals. I have other gear gigs. Time will tell if I jumped the gun.

I'm sorry to hear you got a really bad apple.
It sounds as if the cab fell out of a driving truck, or something.
I'm very confident that the RB series are well built and I am positive that, should you buy one, you will be pleased about it.

Just a question for anyone who wants to share their opinion: Among new RB combos, which is your favorite? (and why?)
From my side, I prefer the 210 for its power and the tone of 10" speakers. I feel the power will be enough for almost any venue. The only concern is its weight and volume but I think the balance is quite OK.

Not sure since they are not long on the market. But I guess for a more old style B15 Ampeg tone the 15” one is the best. But I have no idea if they will sound anything like the vintage ones?

Sounds like you you have the right idea for what small combos work well for and don’t have unreasonable expectations. So I suspect you’ll be okay with what you intend to use it for.

If it would be my only amp I would definitely go for the RB210
39 lbs is fine by me

I wouldn't assume the new combos will inherit the problems you had with your cab. A big part of development is moving forward with improvements in design, quality, etc... It's cheaper that way. But I get that you would be skeptical.
