Ampeg Rocket Bass Combos

Oh yes, that's right, and he posted a video. He had to plug in some wires that had come disconnected.
Exactly. And its the exact same thing the tech had to do on mine too. A speaker wasnt even plugged in.
And then it started rattling again after about 45 minutes of playing time.
Anyways i’ll stop complaining now. Loll its still a good sounding amp and i guess (hope) Yamaha will tighten things up a bit in the next batches.

Bring home a RB112 couple day ago, so far love the sound especially little mix with SGT as suggest by someone who sharing here earlier.
No any factory issue or defective found yet, but once power on, there are notable low freq hiss compare to my Tech 21 VT200 combo when i get close to RB112 . Of cause it is not bother me when put the Rb112 10 feet from me.

Only when you get close? Sounds like the bass maybe.

With any luck and the permission of our school principal, I hope to be taking my Rocket Bass 112 out to our gym's stage in another month for the annual holiday singalong with all the elementary grades. The place is packed, there's lots of energy, and a trio of players with me on the bass performs. The last time we could do it, two years ago, I used my Rumble 100 and with the DI out to the PA, it did a decent job of filling the stage. I'm thinking the RB-112 should be able to do the same thing and sound even better doing it. Crossing my fingers Covid restrictions keep away so we can do the show...

Sounds like a great time!!

Thanks, Tele. Step One completed today with an approval by the committee they decided such events at school. Normally, it’s just a formality but this year everything is based on Covid numbers. My fifth grade took a hit this week with at least two or three home, one confirmed. That’s what’s gonna short circuit something like the all-school holiday gig. We’re looking at alternatives in case we can’t all sit in the gym together. Boy, am I glad I’m at the tail end of my career instead of at the beginning or middle of it!

I’ll keep ya posted. :bassist:

Yes!!!!! DI to PA with RB112 filling stage will be killer!!:bassist: Which lefthanded bass will you bring? You have some nice Rogues IIRC…

Darn- I’m not letting go of that Höfner Ignition Club dream.:hyper:

Thinking about the rig above (my current avatar). However, my Orange Terror Bass arrived today from the amp hospital and is reported to be as good as new. I may pair it up with my Rumble 115 to run it through its paces. Depends if there are 400 kids all in the gym soaking up the sound. Those little buggers do that, ya know. If we keep them in their rooms, then the RB-112 would be plenty. I'll still DI it though so it can be picked up by the camera a little easier.

Is else anyone having problems with the RB-210 DI buzzing? I'm not talking about tweeter hiss, I'm talking about buzz coming from the DI.

I tried the horn and ground lift switches, different outlets, different power strips, different houses, different mic cables, different instrument cables, different basses... I'm getting a veritable buzz constantly, even without anything plugged into the amp input. It's not affected by the master volume, just constant.

Haven't seen much about it on the web, and also tried an RB-115 that had some hiss but definitely not buzz.

Waiting on an exchange but another local RB-210 I tried buzzed when I put it through a powered speaker/PA at Guitar Center...

Hi @chemicalwill and welcome to talkbass.
I noticed some noise coming from the DI of my RB210 but I don't remember it being annoying...
Is the buzz dependent on the volume level? Are you connecting the bass to 0 dB or -15 dB input?

@R2Bass thanks! Finally got around to signing up...

It's definitely annoying, I'd say unusable, even for bedroom recording.

It does not appear to be dependent on the amp volume. Increasing the gain and/or monitor/headphone volume will increase the noise level (but that makes sense, just amplifying what's already there...).

I am only using the 0 dB input with 2 different passive P-basses, but I get buzz even without anything plugged in to either input.

Hoping the exchange will not have this problem. I would really hate to have to choose between the 210 for the power and the 115 for the DI...

So a question that might have been covered already but I don't want to go back and read 79 pages....

Ampeg reintroduced these things a good 20+ years ago, they had a 50 watt version and a 100 watt version.

My recollection is they punched above the weight their wattage would indicate but were damn heavy, like 79 pounds for the 100 watt version.

I take it these new ones use Class D amps, neo speakers and probably plywood enclosures instead of MDF?

Any reason to buy one of the old ones if someone was to come across one at an attractive price? ;)

Attractive prices tend to sway me when it comes to workhorse combos, though weight certainly comes into play. I don't know about neos or what the enclosures are, but the RB amps are all class D.

There were three: 50W, 100W, and a 200W with a tube in the preamp. The 100W B-100R weighs 65 pounds.

The new models use Class D amps, but they do not have neo speakers.

I think at the lower wattages, neo doesn't really have any weight benefit when they just need enough handling to stay one step ahead of the power. And at the higher wattages, I tend to prefer ceramics anyway, though neo speakers have certainly improved over the years now that they're not as concerned about stretching the boundaries as they are having tones that musicians like.
