Ampeg Rocket Bass Combos

Anyone played the Rocket 115 side by side to the Rumble 115 ? What differances in sound do you hear ? Thanks .

i played the RB210 and RB112 next to the Rumble 500 and Rumble 200. I once owned a Rumble 800 head and now own an RB210 (thats been at the tech for 3 weeks now with anannoying rattle or blown speaker)

Rumbles are way more mid forward, more boomy and muddy too, more “Mike Dirnt” out of the box. Rumbles Seem to have more headroom and are quieter (noise wise).
But the Tone of the RBs is killer. More depth, they really have that vintage Ampeg thump.

The SGT overdrive is really great. Doesent cut any low end vs the Rumble overdrive. Rumble overdrive sound pretty awesome but is useless since it cuts too much low end.

Rumbles seem to have overall better durability and quality craftsmanship.

hope that helps.

Hi guys, just got my RB210 back from the tech.

The amp came brand new with loose screws and loose wires and one of the speakers was not connected…

really crappy quality check and a made in china amp.

but damn that amp sounds good and is powerful
Do they get checked in the USA first or straight to the consumer? I think maybe some stuff just came loose during shipping. Shouldn't happen I guess.

I have no clue. I bet there is no qc before distribution. No one would allow this to happen. Im not the first guy that had an RB with these isssues. And they are not the only amps that are made overseas… this is disappointing. So things getting loose while transport is not acceptable IMO.

but still they are good sounding amps. And its been fixed (or finished manufacturing should I say) under warranty. Id still recommend buying the amp for anyone craving that Ampeg tone and the definitivley gorgeous looks

There are things they can do to better withstand the pounding of shipping but it costs more money. One is threaded inserts for the screws that hold the drivers and grill in place. Way better than wood screws but more money in labor and parts. Better packing materials, more money. It's a numbers game for less expensive amps IMO. Glad it sounds good though. Hopefully they do more to insure QC gets better because they're selling enough of them.

My friend who bought a new CK combo couple months ago also face QC issue, i believe they are no different between US made or China made, that is all about factory QC.

I bought a GK MB212-II and when I took it out of the box, the grill fell right off. There were no Velcro loop squares on the baffle to hold the grill on - only the hook squares on the grill. I had some Velcro and added my own. I didn't even bother Sweetwater with it, although I should've. I have no idea how it got packed up like that; there's no way they didn't notice.

yeah a grill that falls is obviously disappointing. Especially on a GK amp that is so expensive like yours… id be pissed, but O would of done the sane thing you did.
In my case, it was one speaker out of two that wasnt even working… Never came across a Fender Rumble or a Crate, Peavey, or even a DOD amp that had a speaker unplugged from factory lol price doesnt matter when it comes down to this

To make a final statement on the RB210.
It started rattling again after like 30 minutes of playing after it was fixed. I returned it and got a refund.

I hope I was just unlucky and had a lemon. If not, that amp is total crap made in China as quickly as possible with virtually no QC.

I really am disappointed ‘cause I used to have total trust in Yamaha and its actually why I bought my first Ampeg amp ever.

should ve went with Aguilar instead or just realise my Mesa rig really is worth the money.

let me know if some of you have a better experience…

There is no company with a 0% failure rare on earth no matter who they are, what they sell, or where they make it, especially when it comes to amps.

I just picked up a RB112. Its bigger than I expected and seems reasonable in terms of craftsmanship. It sounds very good and feel very good using it as my practice amp.
I think the RB112 has enough juice you could use it with a drummer too. So long as your guitar players can keep their volume under control.

Funny story: yesterday I stopped in a local music store and they had a dusty old B50r sitting in a corner of their used section. I plugged in, it worked flawlessly, and it was very well priced. Naturally I was set to reflexively grab it and go—but the ‘grab it’ part reminded me why I’m better off being satisfied with my RB110 and 112! Great sounding little box that weighed 50 Lbs!

I've been using my RB-210 at band practice for about 8 weeks, so it has about 20 hours of use. It is working well for me.

To me the horn was noisy, so I turned it off. Also, to me the ultra-hi button doesn't do anything. The drummer says it works so I'll take his word for it, it must be my ears that don't work.

Could be your proximity to the speakers.
