Ampeg SGT-DI

I bet the Harmonic Booster by Darkglass would be a good pairing.
Yes it is!! But it does change the tone of the sgt di a lot ,I like how it sounds very tim commerford sounding wich was a pleasant suprise and completely unexpected, also the ehx bass preacher with the right setting acts as a straight forward boost with no tone change and you can't really tell its a compressor wich is kinda neat, it beefs it up big time!!

Ill have to check the edison out,,I was thinking of getting a blackstar tube boost ,I know it's kinda low brow but a tube going into a sgt di sounds like great idea!
Never heard of the Blackstar tube boost before. It's the same price as the Edison, with the same tube as well. The current Edison models have a boost switch [mine is an earlier version] but the Blackstar has tone controls.

That edison looks pretty sick, heard lots of good things about nightowls products. Is the sgt di the only ampegish style pedal you have??

I use an Ampeg SCR-DI w/ a separate Scrambler pedal [the Scrambler section on the SCR-DI is lame in comparison] into a Hagerman Valve on my home practice board.

For the studio I use the SGT-DI, Ampeg OptoComp, Edison, and Broughton LPF/HPF.

Live I use the same studio board w/ the SGT-DI and Straight Ahead Power Amp.

I have a Hageman Valve before the SGT, much like 2saddleslab, and it it awesome.

I also have a line6 Pod Express Bass and find the SVT voicing to be a little too harsh in the high end, but then again I’ve never played through an actual SVT; my only point of comparison is the SGT-DI.

I did get to use the SGT-DI at last night’s show. Overall, it’s a win. It doesn’t sound worlds apart from the SVP-CL I typically use. Unfortunately, I found the cab sims a bit woofy and didn’t use them. It sounded fine at home, just wasn’t working in the short time I had to mess with it, so I just turned it off. I did enjoy the compression and using the SGT circuit though. Maybe I’ll bring it again when I’ll have more time to play with it beforehand. Meanwhile, think I’ll tinker with the cabs at home and see what I can come up with.

Exactly the answer I was looking for thank you! I was in search of the SVP-CL and have now decided on the SGT. I know you can't beat the tubes in the SVP but for convenience and FOH hoping the SGT will get it done. I just ordered one.

Hi
Does someone compare ampeg optocomp and scrambler pedal with sgt and comp in this pedal
Kinda, sorta. I use the OptoComp at the front of my chain [plus Edison & HPF/LPF] w/ my SGT-DI. However, I use the OptoComp as more of a tone shaper. When used on minimum settings it brings the bass from "down back" to "up front" in the mix. I leave the comp dial off on the SGTDI. No need for the Scrambler pedal on the SGT-DI cause the SGT circuit hits the OD sweet spot for me.

I use the Scrambler pedal instead of the Scrambler section of my SCR-DI w/ my home practice board. The pedal has more knobs to better teak the sound.

I know this is not apples to apples, but thought it might help.

Hey all,

Just picked up an SGT-DI, been scanning this thread for tips and impressions.

I got it mainly for it's headphone capacity, as well as the B15 sound clips I've heard.

One thing I notice is that my Fender Mexican precision w flats doesn't seem to drive the input very hard.Through my headphones, I have to have the volume knob cranked. Also, even really hard slaps are not triggering the compressor, even with it dimed.

Coming back to bass after some time off, so could very well be overlooking something here.

No one has posted for a while so wondering if this has fallen off....

Does everyone still have theirs or moved it on? I'm really digging the tones I get from this, even more than, dare I say, the venerable Origin SV. The cabsims sound good, but it is a balance trying to get the volumes even and keep from clipping. I uploaded the B15 and EBS IR's from Shiftline and they sound great! I use mine at church besides home and get a really good IEM tone. Overall I really like this peda!

I think Ampeg flooded our collective with the SGT-DI popping, but then two minutes later they hit us with the Venture series....and IMO it all sounds pretty much like Ampeg....so you can have your Ampeg sound 1 of 10 different ways, tubes, no tubes, heavy, light....all Ampeg...maybe thats why the "juice" is out of this thread?

My SGT-DI is used at every live & studio opportunity. Really love the multiple tones I get from clean to OD. Plus it's easy to dial in the appropriate settings given the differences in stage environments. Best pre I've used. When I find something that works why move on?

I love mine. I use it every weekend it front ends a SVT-450 and also goes direct to FOH.
