Ampeg SGT-DI

Are some of you using the aux in and the phone out for a stand alone IEM set up ?
I'm currently using an OD pedal + a clean DI + a headphone amp and I'm considering buying the SGT DI for these 3 functions.
I use it that way in the studio & for silent home practice. I use the SGT-DI for live as well but thru a cab, not in ear.

The SGT covered all my needs/sounds. The BDDI is more of a one trick pony, it's very good at what it does and I used it for many many years but the SGT competes with a real tube head it sounds almost identical to the SVP pro preamps I have had. As one other post said here too, the SGT sounded just like his SVP CL preamp, that made me decide to give it a try and he was correct. The cab and amp simulations are fantastic and I haven't even tried the IR stuff yet. Finally, I am getting tons of compliments from bandmates and FOH folks on how great it sounds. To me, Ampeg final hit a home run after so many years of trying with all the different pedals they came out with.

I agree with this. I still have a BBDIv2 I use for live gigs since my Markbass combo has a weird DI out plug location and its a pretty sturdy box to "toss" around. The SGT stays on my pedalboard for church and playing at home. Like he said, Ampeg really did good on this one!:thumbsup:

Question: Nowadays I play mostly through a PC, using a DAI and amp modeling software. Would like to improve my sound. So does using amp modeling software make a unit like this Ampeg SGT-DI redundant for me? Or could it be used in tandem with the software, or in lieu of the software, to improve sound/increase options?

Thanks,

Definitely redundant. There are plenty of great amp modeller VST available. Also, what is "bad" about your sound? What do you want to "improve"?

Lately I haven't been playing live, so my work is limited to the studio. Although I have SVT and a lot of other plugins I also bought SGT-DI purely out of curiosity, and as You said, to see is it a good in tandem.

My experience,
If you just record in a studio and You have SVT Suite (Ampeg) and any decent compressor plugin, You do not need a SGT-DI.
However, if You play live without real Ampeg amp or without any amp, and You want that type of sound, then SGT-DI is a great choice (even if it's not the only one).

Thanks for your reply.

Just not happy about the tone I'm getting when I play back recordings through the PC, despite a lot of playing around with various settings (AmpliTube). Thinking now maybe the best way to remedy that would be to upgrade my monitors.

Has anyone had any trouble with the XLR-out on their SGT?

Starting this past Sunday, the output from the XLR-out was really distorted and low. My rig stays mainly stationary at church, so I don't think anything could have been damaged. Thankfully the 1/4" outs don't seem to be affected, so it's something with the XLR-out specifically.

I've already submitted a ticket to Ampeg to see if they may have any suggestions.

No issues yet with mine, I have had it about 6 months and use it 2-4x/month.

No issues w/ mine and I've used it constantly in the studio & live since purchased.

Just got the SGT. Lovely present from my wife this Christmas. Took me 30 seconds to dial the sound I’m after. I loooove the B15 voice! The build quality and feel is really good. Even the stacked and side knobs feels premium.
