Ampeg SVT 7 Pro arriving tomorrow !!!!

I got mine a couple days ago. It was not my first though. I bought one a couple years ago when they first introduced them. I always loved the tone but mine would shut down on me at just moderate volumes back then.
I can totally tell the difference between the first ones and the RevC00 for sure.

I sympathize completely with the folks that are having issues with the amp shutting down/cutting out because I experienced it with the first one I had.

The first day I got mine my wife went to work and I really gave it a go,( I was concerned the problem hadn't been addressed after all) and I was slapping and popping very aggressively as well as strumming chords with a pick almost a hard as I could. The amp handled it amazingly well.

I think if the amp is still shutting down at high levels it may be defective, either that or it's just a poor design.
I can tell you however that I absolutely love mine and it's not going anywhere. I am honeymooning at this point but I love it's clean headroom and amazing tone. It reminds me a lot of the 4pro I once owned.
I recently had a pf500 and for some reason I thought I liked that tone better, yea not so much. Svt7pro really is one of the better amps under a grand out there. Trust me I've been through a bunch in the quest for "my tone". The only amp I thought was even close in all honesty was the GK mbfusion. Not so much tone wise, but in an overall package.
Sorry for the long post, I just understand what some people's concerns are and felt like voicing my opinion about it.

Yeah, we all saw that. Don't worry...we'll bold your name on a solo card when we run the Talkbass Show credits ;) But your post about never letting the gain light come on at all was yesterday.

Bottom line is the Ampeg SVT-7 Pro sounds great!!!! I'm accustomed to also having my peak light come on quite a bit. In my gigging (not practice or rehearsal) situation my 7 Pro shut down for a millisecond at a modest volume this Friday. After engaging the -15db cut and keeping the preamp peak indicator from coming on, the amp performed flawlessly and sounded great at loud levels. Set yours however you want, but that's what I did to get me through a gig in the real world and not in the garage. I'm glad there are so many experts out there to chime in with their 2 cents!

HA! Right, because I never play out and know nothing about Ampeg amps.

Well if it gets you through your gig and the sound is working for you, then it's all good.

I want to clarify my post by saying this post was meant for used owners, like me, who are not under warranty.

One thing this post and other posts have done is marginalize "non-warrantied" SVT-7 owners who have Rev-A or Rev-B units. These amps are, to me, like the black plague. No one will touch them with a 10 foot pole and since Ampeg will not acknowledge there is a problem :spit:, we are **** out of luck for a repair due to the non-transferable warranty. Yes, I know that is the chance you take when buying used.

So, that is why I asked my original question.

My amp has not experienced any of the problems mentioned, but I sure would like some peace of mind going forward as I love this amp. Eventually, I will end up getting a quote to upgrade, if possible, but I thought someone might have gone this route.

I just got mine today. Is there an easy way to intentionally make the amp cut into the cutout without blasting the volume? When does the cutout usually happen? (gain, volume levels). I cranked the gain to full on, but I had to keep master low-ish because of being home, and it didn't cutout...

Here is my C00. I bought it open box, no warranty though so I need to put it through the paces before my 30 days are up. Are there any other indicators on the chassis that show it to be a C00 revision? Are other revision labels you guys have also just a sticker?

Just found the breaking point (failsafe) on mine (rev C00).

Settings:

Regular input ( -15db not pushed in), with P bass.

Compression : None

Gain: 2 o'clock

Bass: Noon

Midrange: 3 o'clock

Frequency: #3

Treble: 3 o'clock

Master: 2 o'clock

8-ohm cabinet, and 4 ohm cabinet for test. (1 at a time)

At those setting, once I'd push the Ultra-low in and play aggressively, the amp would cut out for a second or two; pretty consistently... Is this normal?

I probably would never really play at those settings, but I was just testing the amp's cut-off point, and found it. What do you guys think? Bad one, or normal 7pro operation?

i was at rehearsal tonight for the first time with the new 7pro. I had a strange thing happen. Rev C00

i was using an 810e i connected the speakon to the left(as you face the back of the cab) speakon input and it would cut out instantly with hard notes. but when i moved it accross to the other speakon input i could turn that amp up volume to max and the gain at like 3oclock and it wouldnt cut out at all. i could have turned the knobs to max btw. i just didnt want to kill myself

i find that very strange considering both the input jacks are supposed to be a 4ohm load.

any thoughts?

also i used my Gk neo 410 4ohm and i could turn it up as loud as i wanted as well and the amp wouldnt cut out. I did find the limits of the cab tho.

So I can safely say that the cutting out issue is gone. Im guessing theres somethign up with that speakon input jack on the 810e.
I just find that so strange.

on the plus side. The 7pro once it was in the "working" input was very very very loud. with the right cabinet that amp is very scary. i had ear plugs in when i started turning it up. but it physically hurt my chest when i got close to it

Seems like mine should be able to get a little higher based on some replies here, but mine sounds similar to PBFACTORS which is also C00, so maybe it's normal after all.

Where do the Rev A & B's cutoff? I've been reading all over the place about these amps, but can't seem to find that little tid-bit of info...

Anyone?
