Ampeg SVT 7 Pro Club

Can the SVT 7pro be made to sound like an SVT 3pro, or Visa Versa?
I am familiar with the SVT 3 pro's ability But wish to go a little lighter and maybe get a little more headroom.
I have two Class D amplifiers right now. They are great ,but they seem to lack the deeper bottom that my SVT3 pro has.

I believe so. I replaced my 3 pro with a 7. when they first hit the stores I went and tried one. It took me about 10 seconds to get “my sound”. It can do super clean to super roar. The compressor is useful, the graphic eq is not missed, and the weight is nothing. I’m that guy with a release year model that never had a problem. (Knock on wood) lol.

Pretty much exactly experience with the amp too.
To me, it's one of the best amps I have ever owned and played. And I have owned some of the biggest things on the market. Svt 4 pro, Mesa v12.....

I've never been able to test the 3 at stage volumes, but I can assure you that the 7 pumps a lot at the low frequencies.
It's my first class D amp, and I have to say it largely belies all the negative rumors I've heard, it sounds good, very good!

Last night, I brought home an old (very old) SVT 410 PRO and plugged it into the 7.
I didn't know this cabinet but I discovered a crazy sound.
I nearly destroyed my ears getting tested.

Can't agree more. Those myths about class D amps are just lame and waste of time.

I have way more experience with the 7. And to me, for the tone I'm after, it was sounding the same as an 2 Pro or a CL.

I've never played through the 3, but the 3 preamp looks similar to the Classic preamp, so you might be able to get a similar preamp tone from it.

However, the 7 has the compressor which might get you closer to the power tube compression of a Classic (even at low volumes). The amp starts to become growly in its own way as you turn up the compressor (if the input signal is hot enough). I don't have the experience to know how close to a Classic it is, but it is a good, usable tone nonetheless.

I have both. The Classic & 7pro. I love them both. But The Classic is much warmer/ louder And Slams a ton harder than my 7pro. But the 7Pro is No Slouch.

Indeed, the rumors are generally perpetuated by those who are either afraid of technology, are stuck in their old ways and beliefs, or have an agenda.

I'm looking for a quieter fan for my 7 PRO.

This seems to be a touchy subject on some threads and I'm not looking to stir anything up. But I practice with a single speaker right next to the amp with my head very close to the speaker so I can keep volume very low. In this situation my fan noise is significant compared to the signal. I've put up with it for a few years but it's time to make a change and I'd like to keep using the 7 PRO for practice.

Warranty issues aside, if anyone has a replacement recommendation let me know. I know there are electrical and airflow considerations here.

just got my new 7Pro home and tried it out. So far so good. Later on i'm going to A/B it with my PF-800 and B4-R heads.
Pity my poor neighbors...

And it DIED at the gig. Good thing i always bring a backup (in this case, the PF-800 saved the day.
Returned to the local GC for store credit. They're supposed to be receiving a shipment in late April- early May so they'll let me know.
The boat anchor we call a B4-R is back in my rack...

Wow, sorry to read this. When did you buy the amp? Did you buy it new?

i bought it two weeks ago, SUPPOSEDLY "New" from said retailer...
All i can say is i was skeptical about the "New" part when i took it out of the non-original box.
Mind you, the staff at GC was great about all of it- no hassles on the Return- but i think the whole thing was a bit suspect.
Oh well, live and learn...

If you still had the amp I would have asked you to open it and check the version.

The 7 pros that I have played seem to sound better to me than other brands of similar topology.
I'm a huge Ampeg fangirl.
But after hearing about your new one going south I'm leaning more towards a 3-pro.

I DON'T have a 7 pro.. I was seriously looking to get one. But they have been out of stock everywhere for over a month.
Many have had a great experience with theirs. I think you have had no issues at all.
I was hoping to get a Yamaha branded one... Just waiting now. But Im leaning towards the 3 pro now
