Ampeg SVT 7 Pro - the known "cutting out" issue

Actually it is a real easy fix. You can do yourself if you purchase the Ampeg easy fix tool...
Then after your done repairing your amp. You need to put it inside a custom Ampeg rack case to protect it from further damage....

How is that even remotely helpful? You don't like Ampeg, that's your prerogative, but posting hate doesn't help fix the OP's issue.

That is funny. :D

Well there goes my GAS, I been looking at ampeg amps for a week now, but I can not afford for this crap to happen!

I wouldn't worry about it. With the Rev. C00 SVT-7 Pro, while it isn't eliminated, the occurrence of cutting out is low enough to put this one in line with everyone else's amps. If you like the Ampeg tone, then a Rev. C00 SVT-7 Pro is a solid buy.

dang.
that made me blow a little of my morning coffee outta my nose.

little harsh, but still kind of funny (and could apply to any piece of gear that was driving you nuts).

remember folks, BogeyBass was just joking

:D

That's what I thought. First gig, many shutdowns. Not encouraging. Still trying to decide whether to return for refund or exchange for another.

Yes of course;) I had fear of the thread going sour like most SVT7 or 4x10 and 1x15 threads. So I thought A little humor might help things.

Never said I didnt like Ampeg, just have a opinion about this certain product. The custom rack case actually solves the problem 100% so It seems to be the best advice I have read so far. If you need a reliable product made by Ampeg all you had to do was ask me. I have been doing this Bass thing for awhile and I have used many Pegs.

When the one amp cab that has a rack area over the cab was being developed in the lab, I went down after hours, cut a piece of cardboard to fit the rack area, printed "Thank You" on it in large block letters, and hung it in the rack space with tape at the top so it swung............. I left a piece of crumpled paper stuck hanging out of it....

Can you guess I didn't like that cab idea much?

Thanks for reminding me of it!

The powers that used to be were not terribly amused at first, but they got used to it and saw the humor.....

interesting stuff...
I bought the 7 out of curiosity mostly, looking to replace the Streamliner. It stuck. I've gigged it about 10 times, rehearsed it about 20. Never have had any cutting out issues- REV C. Played it super loud for 4 hour gigs and no burps. Sorry you're having issues. Buying used is always sketchy- I know a ton of players who have to or choose to, but to me you're getting what you pay for. I have a new amp, receipt, warranty etc- no stress. Worth 200 bucks any day. I've never owned Ampeg before- so far I'm super impressed.
Buying used anything can be trying- cars, rigs, women....
Sounds like you're pissed that the guy you bought it from has more clout with Ampeg which is understandable, but seriously that's how the real world works. It sucks, absolutely, but it's reality. We've all been through these kinda things whether it be musical or real life- we can all sympathize but at the end of the day you get what you pay for. Caveat Emptor my low end brother.....

That is why I bought a Peg! I was not pissed that the other fella had clout, I was grateful he had clout. It helped me out.

I am very aware of how life works and how commerce SHOULD work. So point well taken. However, that is why you try and buy the BETTER Brand when possible. And evidently that has changed over the years. Companies spend a long time and a lot of money trying to build a Brand and create a positive image. I believe standing behind your product is a crucial part of the process and is where the company proves what they say. Especially in this industry where tastes and loyalty changes very quickly and word of mouth makes a huge difference.

Fender has great service, Gibson does it, Mesa Boogie does it! I speak from experience.

Yes, it was used..but barely...as confirmed by Ampeg and the officially approved Ampeg technician I took it to. The technician even told me it was barely used..I only gigged with it trwice. The tech is even told me that the Class D SVT7-PROS come into the shop more than any other Peg product and more than any brand should!

So draw your own conclusions.

I hear ya Jimmy, but you are missing the point brother. I do appreciate that I got another AMP...which i plan to sell. But not becasue of Ampeg, but because of what the other guy did for me...I appreciate him! Ampeg only stepped up because he told them it was his unit...even after they acknowledged to me on the phone that the unit was less than two years old! That would fall within the warranty period for any of their products. Sooooo...they do not stand behind their products. Very simple conclusion.
Sorry, I've seen way too many examples of them stepping up for customers to believe that. And quite honestly, I think if you had asked to speak to someone with some decision making power, you could have at least worked out a deal to get it fixed at a reduced price.

Guess we'll have to agree to disagree.

Spin it however you want, Jimmy - but IMO it's just another example of Ampeg putting out an unreliable product, then worming out of backing it with their "non-transferrable warranty"... It's pretty crappy that they can't stand behind their products better than that - as I've said in the past, if they had more confidence that their products would outlast their warranty period, they would not have a problem offering a transferrable warranty like Mesa, Genz-Benz, and others...

I see both sides of this one. I've had them step up and take care of me when they didn't have to, and I've seen them drag their feet and do their best to get out of fixing my problem when they did have to. I'd have to call this one a draw - you're both right.

Ampeg is up front about the warranty not being transferable. That means that buying used is a RISK. If someone buys a used Ampeg, then they are assuming that risk. If it breaks, then the risk wasn't worth it. But that is what "risk" entails. It ain't Ampeg's fault. If people aren't willing to accept the risk, then they should but new or buy another brand.

Hi folks, welcome back to the show

or should I say....High Folks

well there you go,the only reliable products from
Ampeg

The thing that has not been mentioned and is impossible to tell is what percentage of any amp makers products fail based on this board.
Perhaps the failure rate is .01%; perhaps it's 15%; we will never know as there are no trusted sources.
I would think the best barometer is looking at the large waranty repair shops in a big city.
If they repair 10x the amount of brand X amps than brand Y, and, both amps seem to sell in even numbers then a true comparison could be made.
You don't have to be Einstein to know that ahytime there are multiple rev #'s there is a serious problem. This certainly happened to GK when they first entered the micro market and now seem to have reliability problems far behind them.
I do remember that they seemed to warranty all the defective amps regardless of ownership but I could be mistaken.
