But here's an idea, use your graphic EQ, crank the level slider as far as it'll go, and play about with the volume to get something useable.
These things dont like grinding while being quiet! One of the few reasons i still have a BDDI!
Have you tried turning the bass and treble down a bit? (Thus increasing the mids)
I was never a huge fan of the settings they provided, and i ended up running it with everything at 12 o'clock most of the time (except level of course). One of the key things to take into consideration is to not use the blend all the way up IMO.
