Ampeg SVT-II appreciation thread

Haha. I've run mine sideways also. I was under the assumption the SVTIIP was the pre from the II. A friend of mine ran his with an old carvin power amp and it sounded pretty good in a live setting.

The IIP is indeed the pre in the II but I don't have one of those as a standalone pre. The SVP CL has a gain/master.

I had the SVP CL running through a 4 pro before I found the II. I ran the CL through the II for a few months before finally realizing it was just dead weight.

I have a lightweight pitchblack tuner in that slot now. The II has the same pre as the III which I also have but rarely anymore. It sounds like the II but not as beefy and round sounding.

Wow. That's a lot of experimenting. Sometimes I wish the II had a gain and master so I wouldn't have to be at noon on the volume to hear good breakup.

The dude who has the preamp keeps trying to buy my II. The guy I got it from had 2 and a Blue line SVT. I tested mine through his Sadowsky and some Bag End cabs and was sold. I only wish I could get my hands on a lefty Sadowsky, the tone that day was incredible.

It's been awhile since I posted in this thread and I am still waiting on my Verellen Meatsmoke preamp to run into the SVT, Ben should have it done after the new year.

On another note, a friend of a friend if you will is selling his Demeter HBP-1 preamp at a killer price and I was toying with the idea of grabbing it to run into my Genz Benz and now am thinking it would be cool to run into the SVT. Has anyone thought of or ever run a demeter or similar pre into the SVT? I'm thinking of running it into the post EQ of the power amp in just like the Verellen and the tone would be massive with the power tubes over a class D amp.

I've been a fan of Demeter gear but never had the opportunity to own any and thought to ask here. I saw he also sells the preamp and a 800 watt class D power amp in one head that looks great but is very expensive at over $1500.

I think I am going preamp crazy with the SVT power section and may be a Demeter owner soon.

I love my SVTII (non pro). I've never had so many people offer to buy any musical item from me as much, like I have with this amp.

I don't miss the master volume at all, I like to slide up the EQ to drive it anyway....

Wish I could say the amp was reliable though.
I've had a bit of a rough trot keeping this amp going for the last 6 or 7 years of regular rehearsals/shows. I've had it serviced on a regular basis but it still has a senior moment every now and then.
Oh well, I don't mind using the V4 whilst the SVTII is getting massaged.

once my tech went in and tightened up the wiring in the plug that connects the preamp board to the main board my amp has been quite reliable...
he reflowed some of the solder joints on the preamp board too, pretty sure it was the plug though.

I've owned this beast for almost 2 years now and will never sell it. I've played many studio sessions with it and have found lately that I'm using the power section a lot with a Demeter and Verellen Meatsmoke preamps....two totally different tastes I know. I got my amp from a guy who had 2 at the time and retubed it with Svetlana SED pre and power tubes and I couldn't be happier. I had a V4B before this and do not miss it.

Glad this thread is still going strong! My SVTII gets lots of offers as well, but after 17 years of ownership (am I really that old?) I can't see it going anywhere. Even though I would like a small, light head as a backup. Right now I enjoy the lifting workout along with the matching 6x10 cab.
I just recently found a source for the oxide black chassis screws if you guys are interested.
