Ampeg SVT-II appreciation thread

I'm interested in those. Also, if anyone knows of a source for some new or like new rack handles, please let me know. A guy "helping" clear the stage after a set put my amp on a rough sidewalk face down on the rack handles no less! I was plenty pissed.
might try Carlos at LS Electronics in STL...he'd be the only person who would have OEM NOS rack handles for the II....

Mine got dropped in its handles too by a friend who was borrowing. I replaced them with 2Pro handles from Fliptops a while back. The design is different but they work fine and fit perfectly. Oh, make sure to use some Locktite on the bolts since they like to back out on their own.

once my tech went in and tightened up the wiring in the plug that connects the preamp board to the main board my amp has been quite reliable...
he reflowed some of the solder joints on the preamp board too, pretty sure it was the plug though.
Yeah when I first got the amp some time ago it was a bit noisy. My tech grounded the graphic slider wiring loom, reflowed a helluva lot of solder (he showed me) and said he recapped all the high voltage caps.
Seeing as how he spent so much time on an amp he didn't really want to service in the first place (he hates big heavy lumps) I felt a bit bad for him.... but only for a minute.
Since then I've had to replace the Graphic EQ on/off button (the hardest intermittent problem ever!), two pots (volume, mids), a power retube twice, a power tube socket, all of the preamp/driver tubes once, IEM plug, a speaker jack, rack handles (dropped) and another cap job on the ones that didn't get done the first time that misbehaved since. I'm sure I'm missing something...

Anyway, point is, the amp should be good for a long time from here (hopefully)
Regardless of the issues I've had, this amp is my #1

Haha everything sounds huge through the amp. My custom active EMG 4 string is 18v and sounds huge along with my G&L L2000. I run the Verellen Meatsmoke preamp into the power section and the clean channel is very clear and clean, It's a completely different tone than the preamp tubes in the amp mainly because there is one tube, but the overdrive sounds killer with the 6550 power section. The Rickenbacker may be my next and final bass purchase for a long time.

Wow. Just found this in the thread.. That is my PHOTO I took that pic around 1990 or so.. . .I used that RIG for a few years while on tour with pop star Debbie Gibson. They used a Forklift to get it on arena stages . .I still have one of those heads.. Works great..

It pretty much would depend on what you want to use the SansAmp for... if you're looking to warm up your signal, you probably wont need it. The SVT's preamp is the finest you can find in my opinion. If you're looking for some dirt, yeah the SansAmp will probably work great. I use a GEB-7 to get some midrange punch when I need it and an MXR Bass Distortion for dirt, but otherwise my tone is all SVT.

As for weight, yeah... there's no mistaking that it's a beast. Mine's in a custom Calzone 5-space rack that I customized with wheels so moving it around isn't bad but it's definitely a 2-man lift when it comes time to get it on my cabs.
