Ampeg SVT-II appreciation thread

IMG_2414.jpeg
Just pulled the trigger on this beauty from reverb. Can’t wait for it to arrive

Thought I’d post this up and add some photos of my recent IINP project as it has been a looong time since I have posted anything here.

I was having some problems with this amp randomly going into standby or not combing out of standby. After looking at the schematic and doing some poking around, I traced the problem to a cold solder joint on the relay located on the AC board. Aside from pulling the amp out of the case and opening the chassis up, it was an easy fix for a change.

Good catch.
Also, I think the amp is designed to go into standby if the line voltage drops below a certain point (possibly via that same relay?). One venue has a power conditioner or something that I’ve used a few times, my amp always goes into standby mid set there unless I plug directly into a wall outlet.

Yes, I think I recall hearing about that happening on the CL or VR. I believe JoknK had a jumper bypass mod for it.
It’s probably the same or similar design on the NP.
Maybe I’ll hook it up on the variac to see at what point it goes into standby.

Well I guess I’ve joined the SVT-II club! Stoked to try it out at band practice tonight.

Beautiful. How’s moving it around? I really want one but I’m not sure I play often enough to justify it (although on the flip side since I’m not a working pro, I could actually justify using it on every gig that isn’t a coffee shop with my acoustic bud)

What cab is that?

It sounds amazing! It is also super loud! I’ve still been playing with it to get it to work with my bands sounds, the guitarists so far prefer my Peavey VB3 but I think I just need to get the EQ right on the SVT. There are some mid frequencies it seems to really boost that step on the guitars.

Nice power tubes there if they are still strong. I’d have those tested and see if they’re still good before forking out 400 bucks for what is available these days.
So, it was making some noise. I took it to a great tech, it just needed a good cleaning and a few spots resoldered. He said power tubes are original and are in great shape. Looks like I got lucky for $1100 plus $100 for service !
