Ampeg SVT610HLF VS deep bass

OP, if you're like me, you are probably going to have to take the journey and no one will be able to stop you but I'm going to try.

I have had many, many rigs in my quest for deep bass. I've had pre-amp/power amp rigs. 18's and 15's. Sometimes bi-amped. I''ve had a big CV sub in my rig. Among the amps I went through was an SVT4. I think I had two of them at one point.

Only the really good PA subs are only going to have low-frequency response that is only just on par with with the 410HLF. PA subs just don't sound as good IMO. Try-out the 410HLF.

I have sacrificed a little low-end in having a tube amp. I know that because I have A/B'd the 410HLF between my SVT-CL and a solid-state power amp. The feel and the tone of the tubes is totally worth it, though.

One thing often overlooked is the instrument. I've had basses that didn't deliver. My Reverend BH5's bring it.

I can tell you this for sure: If you ran your SVT-4 in stereo with two 410HLF's on each side there would be NOTHING too compare.

I DO the same exact thing with my SVT 5 Pro / 2-SVT 410HLFs. One on each side of the stage. Still close enough to couple.

While I have no idea what entry level PA gear wighat is using or refering to, but I strongly urge him to look at some pro grade stuff. The HLF is -3dB at 48 Hz. My Ciare loaded 1x18" subs go flat to 32 Hz with minimum processing, easily takes 1000W sine wave down to that point without exceeding Xmax and go more accurate and far louder than a 410HLF (I own two, so I know) or 3015LF.

That said, I love my HLFs and use one or two without subs, as they give me "my sound" from a single, simple box.

The only thing you can believe about Behringer specs is that they are quite often inflated.

Answer:
The Ciare NDC and NDH 18" were about $300 + vat each in Sweden. You need one sheet of 3/4" plywood, some 2x3" for bracing, handles, grille etc.
In total, it is not more than the HLF.
I run a pre/power setup, so I have an extra amp channel for "free".
A lot of the cost for pro grade PA speaker enclosures are in the cabinets, not drivers.

So am I better off getting a passive cab of higher quality and drive it through my SVT4? Can the amp handle it? It'll be used mostly to jam in my basement, not to fill an auditorium. Looking for the tone, not outright volume.

IMHO, yes and yes. Your amp will provide approx. 450w into 4 ohms. So... locate one with a 4 ohm driver. It'd do better at 2 ohms = 900ish but good luck on finding one unless you co car audio. Lol... Once again, just MHO.

This last sentence right here ^ is the point. My sound man's SRX line JBL stuff is not entry-level PA gear. It sounds AMAZING but I'm not going to plug my bass into the subwoofer.

Also it's worth noting that the SVT410HLF has a very gentle low frequency roll-off that is at the heart of it's big bottom: yes -3 db at 48 hz BUT -10 db at 28 HZ.
