Ampeg V4 Club

V4B head and V4B cab with Altec Lansing 421A speakers. Wow.

Here's a video of me playing crappily, although you can't hear me talking because I set the level for the amp at max volume.

may I also enter :hyper:

Its prolly the roughest v2 on here :D

V2sm.jpg

Actually, not only is it the roughest, I believe it is the first! I've always wanted to grab one of these or the B25, but I can never seem to find them. Does it get the same type of growl that a V4 has?

this is my Blue Panel Pre Magnivox era V4. Not quite sure on the age but its definetly a first issue. I have it converted to run 6550s in the power stage! this thing roars!

Very nice, and I love the whole vibe with the acoustic bottom.

Nice playing, I love those old cabs.

My V4BH in it's current state, along with an SVT-215E. I'm thinking of giving my V4BH a silver/chromed out look to match my Punisher cab; and have the AV faceplate, knobs, and script logo ready to go. Will probably re-tolex the head at the same time.

Bought my first V4 back in 73 , up sized to SVT in early 80's then went SS. Back on the horse as they say. email pictures only as amp is at my tech right now as he is check "cold solder joints" whatever that actually means. 76? v4 head. sounds yummy. If available can i have # 57 which is a fine year......

57 it is then, jumbodbassman. Looks like you have the later distortion version V4 if I'm not mistaken?

Afternoon project... fresh tolex, new AV faceplate, black ultra hi/lo buttons, and silver knobs. Kind of has a Heritage vibe to it now. I must say that the original SLM tolex seemed much more durable then the replacement tolex that I ordered. Time will tell.

My first Ampeg tube head has arrived. Appears to have most of the original Magnavox tubes with only a few preamp replacements. Missing the side handles and one rubber foot. But has the back cover and is otherwise visually top notch.

Sounds so badass! Will haul it's heavy ass to the band room tomorrow to see if it can supplant my MESA 400+ and compete volume wise in a loud 5 piece rock band.

No idea what the MIDI jack installed on the front control plate does. I suspect either nothing, or it's wired to one or more of the toggle switches to provide footswitching of those features. Though I'm making a super wild guess as I cannot figure out why else that thing would be there. :p

Also have a vintage MTI (Japan) SVT I won on Fleabay arriving in the next week to see how it compares. Ampeg heaven awaits! :)

The V4 never had side handles. That top strap is all you get and it's quite the pain in the arse when carrying. I kept mind in a road case both for damage prevention and the fact that the side handles made it much easier to carry.

Well balls! There's 2 screws on each side of the chassis, I assumed they were supposed to be for handles. But I'm guessing to hold the amp in the chassis. Time to find the definitive V4 resource on the internet so I can figure out what the two inputs are supposed to do (seem identical to me) and what the hum control should do, if anything.

Yeah the bolts hold the chassis or chassis mounts on the inside of the head. The two inputs should basically be the same. If I'm remembering it right, the hum control is usually either a balance between two halves of the output section or balance of the two halves of the heater winding from the power transformer. Looking at the schematic for the V4, it looks like the balance is between the two halves of the heater primary, so I'd say that's what it's doing here.

www.ampegv4.com has a ton of info on these amps if you're looking for it.

yes it is from around 76. The distortion is actually not as bad as i expected. probably aweful for guitar but actually gets a decent Larry Graham 360 fuzz tone . when i get it back from my tech , checkup and new rockers...., I have to try blending the 2 cannels to see if that is a useful sound...
