What interface are you using with Vista? I keep hearing much of the recording software and equipment just wont perform on Vista. Im thinking of switching over to XP as a last resort.

Well, the OP could upgrade his ram if the interface he chooses isn't quite working as efficiently as he desires, it's not that expensive on a P.C., and hellbastard could dig his sense of humor out from under the couch and brush it off a bit...
I guess I could do that. Anyway you could have posted something like this before going into the whole Mac is better tha windows stuff. I myself own a powermac G5 and use it for recording purposes. But when it comes to helping somebody your kind of post doesn't help too much, does it?
Sorry if I offended you, but I meant to say that one was better than the other, I just strongly dislike some of Vista's features, and maybe got carried away with my erm... "creative" way of expressing my opinion on the matter. I apologize for that, and I hope we can make some sort of amends. You do have good taste in instruments, by the way, and I hope you get that Corevette $$ soon, although I hope you don't rule out bolt on necks, I have one as my main bass, and it is delightfully punchy.
I run a presonus firebox on both XP and Vista (vista is on my laptop) and it works great on both OS's.
I use a motu ultralite on vista. The latest set of drivers are rubbish on vista, but I tracked down the previous release and they work like a charm.

Edirol UA 25 into my Vista machine with Sonar 7. Only problem I have is I can't have Sonar and Rhapsody open at the same time. Not a big deal for me but... may be for others.
Sounds great and besides the above mentioned issue no problems at all. I think it's a Sonar driver issue and has nothing to do with the UA 25. Also use the UA 25 to control my monitor speakres.

I found the Edirol 25 right after tryping this post. They look pretty good and do have up to date drivers for Vista 32. I believe I will go with that. Comes with a good bundle as well.
Been great for me has low latency and sounds very good. USB has come a long way!
I use a Zoom H4 as my interface, but I don't use the USB connection.
I just use the 3.5 mini-plug line-out from the Zoom to the 3.5 mini-plug line-in on my computer.
The Zoom has excellent built-in stereo condenser mics as well as mic simulators. It also allows you to set the mics to mono.
It also has two 1/4 inch instrument inputs and two XLR inputs.
Not to mention that it is it's own fully functioning 4-track recorder with built-in amp simulators and effects.
You can't go wrong.

I've had good luck with the M-Audio Fastrack USB interface and their 'Session' software. Somewhat ironically, when I bought this it (software & drivers) ran better on Vis-duh (desktop) than on XP (laptop). No MS issues there, just very kludgy drivers and version control from M-Audio. After downloading more current stuff from their website everything ran fine on XP as well. Should you choose to go this route, it may be worth visiting their support web page for the more current software. (I bought in April of this year, but the CD had software from Fall '08 on it...and I'm still confused as to how it passed QA on their end...attempts to install were immediately met with error messages. But I digress.

Edirol UA 25EX. Works like a charm. ALL Edirol/Roland products work like a charm with Vista 64 bit. I use the UA 25EX, an Edirol PCR 500, and Sonar 8. So far, the combination is damn near flawless. BTW - the UA 25EX is one of the low-level interfaces, and it still rocks.
Edirol/Roland have done the best job at keeping up with Windows versions. All you need to do is download the latest Vista 64 bit drivers, and you're rollin.'

i just got a presonus audiobox USB, which i use on my Vista (wow, it really is bad btw) laptop. It took about 6 hours to get it to work with Cubase and the box and record cleanly. I'm good with computers too, it was REALLY frustrating. But now that it works, I'm pretty pleased.
I'm using Vista 32-bit home premium with an E-MU 1820 interface (PCI slot required) along with Audition and have experience vitrually no problems at all (3GB RAM, Intel Quad [email protected]). I tend not junk up my PC with every add-in & download under the sun - the only 'add-ons' I have on my PC is Visual Studio & SQL Server. I've also used the same hardware & software on XP (32-bit Pro) and was also very happy with those recordings I did. In case you are wondering, I've recorded 6-tracks simultaneously and playback at 10 tracks). I would avoid using USB on ANY operating system (I've read way too many stories of frustration - firewire would be the prefered interface over USB).
