An Open Letter From a High Functioning Gasaholic...

Guilty as charged....realized recently that I had too many basses which were not in the rotation and were never being played....so I went to the Philly Guitar Show and sold/traded 4 quality basses and came back with only one very nice
USA Lakland that is incredible and covers all my needs...and also brought home a bunch of cash....since then I have almost all of my free time watching TB and GC and Craig's List for available used basses....we need to start a GAS Anonymous!

Your wife is easily convinced that the bass you just bought is one you've had for years.

When shopping for another vehicle, you have cab dimensions in mind,
and not how many kids it will fit.

Pictures of said kids are noticably lacking in your wallet/phone,
which taken up by pics of your gear.

I can top all of this. My first rig was a yamaha BB200 bass with quater pounders, bright red/orange with a Mickey Mouse decal on it and a Crate B160 XL amp. After 25 years of playing and countless (seriously, i forget how many basses, amps etc.. I have owned) I am back to a yamaha BB200 bass with quater pounders, bright red/orange with a Mickey Mouse decal on it and a Crate B160 XL amp. I occassionaly bring other gear to practice/gigs whcih my badnmates or people I am filling in for demand the Yammie and the Crate. if I could have those thousands back I spent on stuff in between.

NOJJ has a good one..

My variation..we have no kids, but I think :

Will this vehicle handle a massive folded horn cab, at least 2 basses and peripherals?

Must be a hatchback and low to the ground so I can tilt-n-load instead of hoist and lift as in the back of my P/U Truck.

Excellent mileage a plus but capacity trumps fuel economy..sighs...

Hi, my name is Double E and I am a GASaholic.

I have bought parts for basses I don't have to play at gigs that don't exist with an amp I just sold through speaker cabs that are still on a UPS truck in Massachusetts.

I sell one thing to get another only to find out I can't live without the first thing...and so the process begins again.

I need help.

I don't see a problem here

Recently, I bought a neck just because it was a great deal...don't really need another bass, just a deal I couldn't pass up. That created a huge GAS vacuum and caused a tireless search for the rest of the items needed for a bass build and endless scraping of my parts drawer for items to sell to fund this new, unnecessary project.

I am happy now, I will have my new build complete in a week or so. Then I suppose I will start pining for the stuff I sold to make this happen. There is literally no end in sight.

Again I say...I need help!!! Maybe I should go into a MM Bongo thread and start tossing out toilet seat references so I can get myself banned from this evil forum!

5. Your online search for the perfect bass rig equals 5 times the amount of actual practicing.
Oh yeah. I turn my computer on when I practice, because I need the drum machine, band-in-box, iTunes, etc. And then since the computer's on, it wouldn't hurt to just check the TB classifieds real quick ... and eBay ... and craigslist ... and GC used gear ... and Bass Central ...
