You played it through your rig? I always remember T-brids as being really aggressive. Then I'd say you found a bum one or Gibson has manage to mess the TB up now too, Gibson has been really underwhelming me for the last 8+ years. I have a 90's Epiphone Rivoli which in terms of fit, finish and tone beats out the new Gibson SG bass by a lot, and with a old EB-0 pickup in it it flattens the SG bass electronically; 30k is a lot of power and the new Gibson pickups don't even come close. And that Rivoli was half the price of what Gibson sells the SG bass for:bassist::bassist::bassist:

Ah yes, Mio-chan!! And her left handed 62 Fender Jazz bass.

Interesting fact on K-On, is that they are actually using real instrument names. So far I have seen the Fender Jazz bass (Mio) Gibson LesPaul Standard (Yui) Korg Triton Extreme (Mugi) and a set of Yamaha drums. Add to that Azuza's Fender Mustang guitar. For amps there have been Marshall for the guitars, Roland for the keys and Ampeg, Peavey and Ashdown for the bass. Also a set of Sonar drums in episode 10.

Yes, I like the show...

The anime Beck did this as well with the guitars. Gretsch White Falcon, Gibson Les Pauls, Fender Telecaster (Fender actually released a "Beck" Tele in Japan) and a Stingray bass.

And how can you forget Mylene Jenus from Macross 7?


Oh wait..we were talking about bass in anime music? Not anime bass players? Oh well.

I usedto listen to a lot of anime op-eds and some j-rock and j-pop.. Tetsu from Larc is a monster.

If you search you-tube form the opening song from K-On, you'll find vids of people playing the bass line from the show...

There are some really great basslines in some of the music for both YOROIDEN SAMURAI TROOPERS and TEKKAMAN BLADE (which are also two of my fav japanime series...). I'll admit to liking the older anime more than the recent stuff. I started watching anime about the time Z GUNDAM started to air... Wrote up some series reveiws for TEKKAMAN BLADE, SAMURAI TROOPERS, and SAINT SEIYA, as a matter of fact. I haven't gotten good enough to really try to transcribe / play any of the basslines by ear yet, but as I improve, I'll be able to start doing so...

Not through my own rig, but I found the most comparable amp I could at the store, and played with the EQ a lot trying to get that mid-rangey clangy growl I'm used to. Just wasn't happening. Probably a good thing, after all, as the bass was more than $2000.


On the subject of Anime, I just started watching Ergo Proxy with my friends a couple nights ago. And now I'm on the 4th disc. Some weird music in that. The Radiohead song in the credits has a pretty cool bass line, though.

Haven't watched the anime based around the Hatsune Miko vocaloid, but the vocaloid software that yamaha came up with is amazing, though it tends to suit japanese vocals better... In english release versions, you can tell that the voice is synthesized too easily. However a new version will be released soon that is closer to being realistic... though I'm afraid that they chose a pro opera singer for the voice bank, so general usage might be tough to work with... unless you're doing projects that you want to sound like nightwish's former frontwoman tarja.

it's Miku, by the way, and it too sounds really "fake", you might not notice because it's in japanese, but yeah, it's pretty "digital" sounding, lol, and you know what? that's one of the things that makes it cool ;D

Bah... so I made a typo. As for the Eb-0's, if you want to boost the sound through the roof, get an 80's era EMG select series pup. The one in mine will make the amp start to kick in the overage limiter if I don't turn down the gain to about 1/4 or 1/3. That series of pup also removes some of the mud for a bit of a cleaner sound. I'd provide model # but that would involve removing the pup, which is more work than I feel like dedicating for simple informational purposes, when the info on model #'s produced during the 80's should be available online.

Anyway, new op theme song for you:

Anime title: Maburaho
Song title: Koi No Mahou Maburaho (op theme)

Bassline is pretty busy, but sounds fairly simple to pick up if you have a good ear, and it stands out in the mix as well which will make it easy to hear.
