Our sound guys aren't really sound guys. they wouldn't know what to do with a set up like that.

That is quite a setup, it must be nice to just plug and play. I go to a church in a box, so we have to setup and tear down each Sunday. If your drummer beats as hard as ours, I think I would sit on the other side of the Keyboards. I use a SWR Super Redhead, has 2-10s set on top of a SWR Son of Bertha 1-15.

Yeah we're actually converting to the Aviom system this week. Should help a LOT.
I run through my tuner and bass chorus into an Avvy U5 into my Sennheiser GS300 and molded Westone UM2s. Plenty for me.
Took a few months to get past hearing stuff "open air", as I never even used a monitor before then, just me and the amp (Peavey 115 combo), but now tons better...
Now if we could only get real soundguys I'd be happy... ;)

I play in a couple situations. I always use my bass and bass POD XT Live. I either go through the monitors (not as good) or use the church Hartke kick back. The main problem then is just hearing a good mix. Our drummer really struggles when in the big sanctuary. We have 1 aviom unit and it does not work consistently (probably users and setup not unit).

At my old church it was all headphones and I couldn't hear the choir or orchestra very well. Finally got a small monitor and was able to bring my small rig onstage. I didn't bring it once for a musical rehearsal and the director got worried about the performance (next day) b/c he depended on it now.:)

Flash forward to new church: They just struck the stage of amps and the acoustic drums before my turn in the rotation (we have 4 bassists - everybody gets a turn). Crappy playbacks with not to stellar headphones. I was gonna buy some better headphones, but who knows what will happen next. The levels have gotten so low in the house (new soundguy) that the preacher was complaining how quiet it was.:cool:

I was trying to get to know the soundguy and discuss some things after church, when a friend came up and said "btw, the bass was thin and barely audible in the house." I just pointed and said: "talk to this guy.":D

While I don't go to church in a box (It's more like a fancy pole barn) we do have to set up and tear down. That alone affects our sound the most.

We use 4-15"+ horn powered cabs and this huge Mackie board; there’s a mad rush every Sun to get all the wires run.
We have 9 singers 3 guitars a keyboard drum and bass plus two gals that play an assortment of percussion stuff, all get run to the snake and into the PA.

MY updated rig is just my YBA200 & ampeg 15" or my 25watt crate if I'm lazy.

The drum is electronic with a 12" Roland cab and guitars are using 30watt combos so stage vol isn't very high, that’s how I can get away with just the crate, it’s just a monitor.

Overall the sound isn't too bad (sound guy is still learning) I think I'm still buried to far in the mix.

But it's not about me or my band mates, it's about joining our brothers and sisters in song to worship God, who is worthy of all the praise and song we can give.

I am lucky in a sense, our worship leader likes for the bass to be heard. We meet in a middle school auditorium with stadium seating, it probably seats about 200. On stage our worship leader sends both his Martin and Strat direct. I send a direct signal as well, but most of my sound comes from my amp. Our guitarist has a Marshall half-stack and also sends a direct signal. We are not micing the drums at this time. I am sure stage volume hits around the 100 db level at times. I normally wear ear protection. Our sound equipment needs some help. We are using a donated 24 channel Mackie and 400 watt Peavey amp. We have two Carvin cabs with 1-12 and horn. On stage we have a Carvin Mixer/Amp combo with 3-Yamaha 12" monitors. Our sound guys are volunteers, they do the best they can. I still believe musicians make better sound guys when they don't let thier egos get in the way. My pastor is getting a little frustrated with the sound, so he has asked me to put a list together of some equipment that would make the biggest impact first. I guess I will be looking for new speakers with subs. I attend a Vineyard church in Wake Forest, NC.

Currently I am playing through a Hartke HA500 and the Hartke 4.5 XL. Although it's not my favorite rig a friend of mine and the Choir director's bought it at cost through his endorsement deal. It sounds pretty good with my Roscoes and Fender Jazz but didn't sound good at all with my old Warwick Thumb. Anyway, thats how I project. The keybaord and choir go through the P.A and the drums kick from behind the plexiglass sheild... I can get a bit loud up in there! We are looking at evryone going through the P.A. in the near future.

we used the avioms but found that even though you can hear everything, there is nothing like hearing a bass cab, or felling the kick drum, etc

Believe me, I didn't give in quietly-
it was use IEMs or don't play. :)

So, I make the best of it by getting custom fitted buds and a rad DI like the Avvy U5 and I'm ok.

Guys I'm blown away.
I play through my Sansamp BDDI into my a 50 watt Yorkvile Bass Master, one of the old blue carpeted ones. If I go over 5 on my volume I'm too loud, I don't di to the PA and I am plenty loud enough. You guys attend some pretty big churches. As peter G said its not about us its about a connection to God, something we are a part of.

I do feel for those who do the pull down set up thing each week we had to do it for a while. It is so much nicer knowing i can leave my amp there and just turn up with my guitar and plug in.

Hey let me know how the Avioms work. We have them on order. We are using the Shure E3's and they are not enough to handle the lower bass frequency. I am ready to spring for a set of dual driver buds out of my own pocket. I have been out front before and my sounds great, but through the buds it is lacking to say the least.:crying:

That's what I had to do as a Christmas present this past year. The regular Sennheiser buds were completely useless, and when they were blown out, they were like $170 to replace! Insane!!

So I did a LOT of searching, and unless you're going to get the 3-way, full custom-molded setups like with Ultimate Ears or something, Westone is the perfect in between. I just bought their UM2s, and then had impressions of the tips made for me, and altogether was like $300. Much cheaper than getting your whole ear done and sending it to them to make a big one-piece unit, which I've seen and personally don't like nearly as much as what I have.
Sounds insane and you hear things you've never heard from your bass before, which is both good AND bad, but will report as they're supposed to be in in time to use for Easter (this early??) next week.
