Agreed, the new finish looks great. I've got two solid-color Fernandes basses, would prefer they had 'natural' finishes.

Agreed, the new finish looks great. I've got two solid-color Fernandes basses, would prefer they had 'natural' finishes.
I also follow this thread with interest as the 1980's Fender P-Bass Special (and it's guitar counterpart Fender's "The Strat") were the reasons I wanted a stringed instrument at all. Especially the lake placid blue (I don't think it was identical to the original lake placid blue in the 50's/60's, was it?) with the brass/gold plated hardware was so great looking (not to forget the matching headstock). Although all I had in my hands were quite heavy instuments.

the body's paint was fully cured so i gave it the final buff & polish yesterday. just need to shoot the neck now and finish cleaning up the rest of the brass hardware. waiting 8 weeks for the backordered new neck to arrive was what held up this restoration, but all is going smoothly now.

it's a late 70's bass (it came stock with active pickups and all brass hardware). the circular routes were probably used for CNC'ing but the bridge one also works for threading the bridge's ground wire .

thanks. yeah, my paint supplier has all of the vintage fender colors, color matched to the original dupont (Duco and Lucite) color codes.

It's a computer guided process using cartesian coordinates (Y axis, Z, X, et cetera (at least there's a Z on the machines I work with...)). Ideally, the specs and measurements will never change with a CNC machine.

John, you do great work. I suspect that if I ever decide to restore my '63 to Oly White and not do it myself, it will be coming your way. But I find that at least for now, I'm OK with the Ford gold metallic it has been since 1972.
