Another reason why I'm NEVER getting married!

Yeah...Bryan, you're leaving very many important facts out...

1-Seriously, we need to know if she's hot.
2-Because if she's hot, human nature says we put up with more crap from them because...well...of the hotness.
4-Seriously...we need to know if she's hot.

She's um... as hot as a 55-year old woman can be, I suppose. Got that big-permed-hair look. Blonde. She can get into a pair of jeans, she ain't exactly wearing a mumu to Walmart. Classier gal.

But the daughter..... MMM MMM MMM. The first time he threw the wife and kids out, the daughter was constantly in and out of the house carrying stuff. Wearing these teensy-weensy little yellow track shorts. Kept bending over as she put things on the ground. I'm tellin' you.... made me feel all squirrely in my loins.

If you are going to let the things that happen to other people affect your getting married then I say, don't ever get married.

Everyone is different. Now, if your post was "I'm not going to marry THAT GIRL" then I'd say that's a smart decision.

I'm sure there's more to that story than you know, and it's easy to paint someone as the bad guy.

Well, since he now believes that we're all "professional liars", I don't think we need to worry about him getting married.

Oh don't worry... I have no intentions of getting married.

Well, that's probably a good thing. You clearly have no trust for any woman right now. Without trust, marriage *cannot* be successful. Until something happens to change that for you, best not to get married.

I have to wonder, about your neighbor...did he know she smoked pot when they met, or during the marriage? If he is so vehemently anti-pot, why did he stay with her at all? Its a very hard thing to hide. When you smoke, your fingers smell of it, even after washing. The smell lingers in the room in which it is smoked.

Then he gets with a junkie...how did that happen?

It just seems like maybe your friend has some issues which make him attracted to people that are not right for him. I've seen a lot of women do this...they keep getting with guys who have substance abuse problems, or who are abusive. It usually has to do with some problem within themselves...some emotional scar from the past that has them in this pattern that they need help to break out of.

But it *does* happen to guys, too! I was listening to an NPR program where they were talking about men who'd been abused in their marriages, by their wives. It was very enlightening.

Certain personalities tend to put themselves in situations, over and over, where they can "fix" someone. Could this man be the "fixer" type? People like this often equate love with needing to help someone...so they choose partners who they perceive as needing help, and then can't fix them, and the downward spiral begins.

Your friend might want to consider men's counselling. I saw a women's counsellor when my abusive first marriage dissolved, and she really helped me to examine myself emotionally, to recognize when I was making bad choices in partners, and gave me strategies to help me make better choices. (And, because my ex took everything but the baby and my lousy, junk car and I was poor, that counselling being based on a sliding pay scale was a lifesaver!) It wasn't about "Oh, men are bad!" It was about "Why am I choosing men who treat me badly? How can I stop doing that?" Excellent help...got it through the local Y.

I'm betting your friend could truly benefit from that kind of help. It surely can't hurt. I resisted the idea at first, but it really was a help. It was like being given all the tools to build a new and better home, you know?

now you are just creeping me out, stop looking at his pot smoking daughter. unless you are her age.

Unasked for forgiveness allows me to carry out normal human relationships. People are flawed, they do things they shouldn't / don't mean to. They need forgiving so I can continue to be friends / coexist with them. Forgiveness != exemption from wrongdoing.

Then you've never been truly wronged or you're broadening the concept of forgiveness to include tolerance.

To me it sounds more like you're describing putting up with the annoying habits of friends that everyone does. I agree that people are flawed and often do act out of ignorance and not malice. But I believe that the two are exclusive.

This specific scenario was not an "Oh, I forgot to re-fill the ice tray".

I don't think describing the way I choose live my life as "self-serving ego massage" is very respectful.

I'm sorry you misunderstood my post. That was not my intent.

...
If a friend drops your beer on his way back from the bar, does he have to ask for forgiveness?

Dropping a $3 beer and jeopardizing an entire family aren't even in the same league. As I pointed out before there is malice and then there is misadventure. You do know the difference, right?

By the same token; if you had dropped a friends beer on the way back to the table are you telling me that you wouldn't apologize either? Do you lack that modicum of decency?

I'm not saying that such a slight accident even requires forgiveness, I'm just playing along with your irrelevant scenario.
